I can't keep it in .....
At our last month's school board meeting, we voted to get rid of K - 5 English books from our elementary school
(We have three separate entities ... two elementary school buildings, a middle and a high)
Because I am married to a Filipina, I'm always looking for a way to bless a third world country with anything that would be a help (imo) to them, and I've sent books there before and my nephew ravished an albebra book before his time and (they ARE taught English, but I WAS surprised to learn) .. he is the best in his class now in math and algebra (13 years old)
Anyway .... I voiced my desire to have the books if the usual priliminary channels did not redistribute them
As it turned out ... I got a call last week to come and get them
When I got to the loading dock, I did not expect two and a half pallets stacked with boxes of books
My wife is gonn'a KILL me when I bring these home
Now, I COULD have refused them and the school would have been responsable, but I was thinking of my testimony and the words I use when talking to the board, etc., and I thought I should take them and act happy (in front of them) ... but inside I wondered .. "WHAT am I gonn'a DO with these ?
Sure enough, it took three pick-up trips to get them home ... I had NO where to put them, so my neighbor helped me unload them in my fron yard and I covered them with plastic ....
and waited for Liza to come home and hit the roof
Which ... sure enough .... she did
I started to go through them on the good days we had and was impressed with their condition ... good to excellent and the teacher's manuals, tests and a ton of et cetera's were included
I just KNEW I had done the right thing, but it appeared to be a stupid move
How do I ship these to the Philippines ?
I called missionaries and others for advice and I talked with a shipping conpany that could ship them by boat for about $800 I didn't have, and the receiving end would be taxed and etcetera
Liza was getting impatient, and so was I
Two days ago, I spoke with a Christian school about a completely different matter and afte THAT discussion, related my woeful tale and asked if the director knew a way I could deal with these books
She gave me the number of another Christian school that MIGHT use them, but .. no promises
I thanked her, hung up and dialed
After identifying my self and explaining the reason I called, the principle of THAT school asked if the books I had were "Journeys" series
I told her there too many books for me to go through them all, but that I had seen the word "Journeys" on some of the books and if she'd like to come out and look at them ... etc.
The next day ..... yesterday .... a van and a full sized pick-up drove up (I was waiting ... we had a pre-arranged time) and Miss ________ got out and two older guys and she went to the boxes
I'd never heard a woman squeal with delight (except my wife ... but that's for a different thread .... wait a minute .... no, it's not .... it's none of ANYone's business .... /8^) ... )
Miss _____________ had an order list in her hand and she was exclaiming .. "Oh ! .. Praise The Lord !, over and over
Here's God's hand in it all;
Here in Pennsylvania, the state has not passed a budget and of course, the modus operandi of public schools is to get and use money based on a budget
The school Miss ___________ principled had decides this year to change their curriculum, had thrown out ALL OF THEIR K THROUGH 6 (not 5) BOOKS (so they had nothing to work with, and Harrisburgh had released no money to ANY school in Pa.
GOD HAD GIVEN ME GRADE K THROUGH 5, WITH ALL THE TEACHER MANUALS AND A TON OF ET CETERA'S ... OF THE EXACT CURRICULUM MISS ___________ HAD ORDERED AND THE SCHOOL DIDN'T HAVE TO COME UP WITH ABOUT $100k !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say ... they loaded everything up, we prayed and thanked and praised God in my front yard ... Liza loves me again .... and ...
God is still on HIS throne !

Maybe you better just keep mum... If you tell them what you’ve done, they might not give you the books next time. Could be they didn’t ask that school on purpose.
If you keep quiet, you can offer future books to Christian shools...
Only clever FReepers that can dig a local area will be able to target me and district ... THEN ... they're the ones that would have to squeal.
