At a rally in Sioux City, IA, GOP Presidential candidate and front-runner Donald Trump took a question from a Wounded Warrior named Todd, who explained his frustration with the VA. Mr. Trump then took down his information and offered to personally put pressure on the VA:

Trump is definitely going to make it better. Like seeing a doctor close by instead of driving miles. Or being in a home close by instead of driving miles.
Get rid of the VA - give them a voucher for any local hospital
Does anyone see anything wrong with that idea?
Good job, Trump!
Just one more issue ripe for exploitation by a Republican candidate. Offer vouchers for Vets to visit private hospitals in lieu of VA hospitals.

Yes. The problem with that is vets have a unique life story - one that 72% of the civilian population admits they do not understand. Vets need to be cared for by doctors who understand what they have been through and how to work with them. Farming vets to civilian care will increase suicide rates and decrease effective treatment for problems common to vets.
I grew up in New York city and Trump has always respected vets and cops. This I would imagine ticks off the treasonists to no end as they consider vets and cops the enemy. Either way, it looks more and more likely that Trump is going to be the nominee which eventually will HAVE to result in Hillary debating him and I’m hoping Trump will be the one to finally blow wide open for even the stupid to see the absolute scum that is Hillary and the treasonists. It’s beyond absolutely outrageous that we have enemies of the US in political office, giving more attention to criminal foreign invaders than our own vets!
And how was that rally portrayed in the media? As "Trump begs Iowa voters for support". How disgusting can the media get?
It sounded like Trump was saying that non-VA care would be used when the VA isn’t taking proper care of vets, as a backup. That would be in cases such as Todd’s, which is the one Trump was addressing.

I, for one, think I get much better care at the VA than at the family doctor...
Remember the Benghazi 4. I believe their caskets were photographed which was against the rules and merely for publicity.
Just for the information of Freepers, the VA does send vets to private hospitals for procedures unavailable at a local VA Medical Center (aka hospitals). But it does not issue vouchers for same. I had a CABG (coronary artery bypass graft(s))performed at a civilian hospital, courtesy of the VA and the American taxpayer.

The solution would be to integrate retired or reserve Medical Corps physicians into civilian hospitals so that there is always a medical presence that can understand and treat conditions unique to veterans.
My husband is a vet and he never goes to a VA hospital. My grandfather had great experiences at the VA hospital in Indianapolis, but those days are over.
I’m very happy that you were able to get the treatment you obviously needed badly. I want every single vet to have the best medical care that we can provide.
Thank You for your service.

For medical needs they can have a voucher for regular hospitals and doctors.
For their mental/emotional stress they can have vouchers for mental health professionals.
It would be less costly than maintaining the cumbersome VA system.
Longterm VA facilities could be maintained.
The Feds will never give up control of the VA simply because it gives them control of the money. It’s all about control.
A very compelling moment. Mr. GG2 had tears in his eyes. The rest of these candidates are just so lacking.
