I’m married to a Chinese woman. Asian issues matter avove all others to most of them (sorry, but it’s true).

What Mr Trump did was not uncalled for, no matter how you spin it.

After many years of marriage, I can’t identify different origins of Asians visually. The kid was talking of very specific Korean issues, so it is natural to assume Korean ethnicity.

You are correct
My wife makes it a point to tell other Asians that I speak Cantonese so that they don’t make disparaging remarks about her “Ghiweilo” husband around a table thinking I don’t know what they are saying.

Unfortunately, the observations you’ve made based upon life with your wife, are true for nearly all immigrants.

Indians care about India or Indians in this country.

Asians for Asia and Asians.

Islamists for the CalipHate and Muslims.

Latinos for their South-of-the-Border countries and Latinos.

However, if white Americans dare say anything in defense of our heritage and culture...they call us the racists.

You have to have been there. I can usually distinguish among Thais, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese. Not 100%, but usually. Seeing them side by side over an extended period helps.

Seriously? I can generally tell Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Cambodian and Filipinos apart.

Koreans are sometimes a little tougher because some of them resemble Chinese and some of them resemble Japanese. Sometimes you can look at them and see distinct Korean characteristics, but sometimes you can't.

Probably your difficulty stems from not seeing representatives of other Asian groups. In my town, the various Asian groups are very cliquish. They pretty much only hang out with their own groups.

The Japanese hang out with other Japanese, the Koreans hang out with other Koreans, (Japanese and Koreans often hate each other) the Vietnamese hang out with other Vietnamese, and so forth.

They do interact a little between the groups, but mostly they just hang out with their own group.

Your wife probably hangs out with mostly Chinese, so you don't get to see many people from other Asian countries.

Just a guess.
