Sheriff races are going to become more and more important as things devolve in this country.
And these very high pension costs were voted in by both Democrat and Republican city councils supported by both Democrat and Republican citizens.
The TV told us to idolize police officers. 911 turned them all into Olympian Gods.
Now police forces have to depend more and more on electronic gadgets, gizmos, and increased firepower financed in large part by federal grants.
So now the police have to due the bidding of the feds.
Of course if certain cities really cared about local control they would have behaved more rationally and wouldn't need a handout from the feds, but very few chose to do so.

Obama doesn’t have time to pull off the full totalitarian ... our police will stand against this crap... even with Obama’s war on cops in full swing.
I sure hope those blue helmets won’t be worn by allies.
Our collective conscience would be much eased if the helmets are worn by North Koreans and Iranians and not Swedes or Canadians.
Then we won’t suffer guilt pangs while we reload.
I have an idea, why not put those blue helmet fellows south of the Rio Grande? Mucho crime there.
