Food Industry Issues Dire Warning to Congress: Get Serious About Climate Change or Starve
Robert F. Kennedy Jr's Ring Of Fire ^ | October 2, 2015 | Justin Lane

Posted on 10/02/2015 8:08:02 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Ten of the world’s largest food production companies sent a letter to the U.S. Congress on Thursday, encouraging them to take action on climate change.

The letter was signed by the chief executive officers from Unilever, Mars, Kellogg, General Mills, Nestle, New Belgium Brewing, Ben & Jerry’s, Clif Bar, Stonyfield Farm, and Dannon.

“The challenge presented by climate change will require all of us – government, civil society and business – to do more with less. For companies like ours, that means producing more food on less land using fewer natural resources. If we don’t take action now, we risk not only today’s livelihoods, but those of future generations,” they wrote. “We are asking you to embrace the opportunity presented to you in Paris, and to come back with a sound agreement, properly financed, that can affect real change.”

Unilever spokesman Tom Langan pointed out that no one company can do this alone during an earlier round-table discussion in D.C.

“The reality is, Unilever can hit all its goals and it won’t make a difference, alone, in and of itself,” Langan said. “We need to work together. We need governments to be involved.”

And there it is.

More government/business cronyism.

Must be a buck to be made somewhere.

That’s an impressive number of gullible CEO’s.

Do the half of them who rely on dairy products know the impact of cow farts?

such crap....

I really need another major sector lecturing me and my country about something THAT WE HAVE NOT CONTROL over and the only reason they're doing this is so they can jack up prices, with the "crisis" and maybe get few more trillions out our tax burden...

Geez, there’s more to the “food industry” than just that handful of useful tools.

Pure bullshitte.

EVERY plant on earth is growing 12% to 27% FASTER, higher, greener, with longer and higher stems carrying MORE flowers, seeds, fruit and energy than EVER before in history DUE TO more CO2 in the air recently.

Warmer seasons - and we are about 5/8 of one degree warmer than 150 years ago! - means a longer growing season and more areas (that used to be colder) can now grow crops. Further, more fossil fuels means better storage, harvesting, shipping, and food preparation = LESS people starving with LESS waste and spoilage!

If the earth does get warmer and have higher levels of CO2 it will mean more arable land overall.

Unfortunately it most likely won't be the land that Big Ag has locked up. They'll have to sell their current land at pennies on the dollar and purchase new land at a much higher price.

Tough toenails for them.

Elites don’t starve (no matter the supposed cause)—they eat lobster and Kobe beef while the little people eat soylent green or die. Always has been that way, always will be.

Nonsense. I have heard the guy from Stoneyfeld interviewed, he is a rabid liberal, clueless as to what true science is with regard to his petty little yogurt business. His product is overpriced, sold at Whole Paycheck Foods, and I will never buy it. Another threat, another appeal for government to intervene so they can be the fascist monopoly they want. Nonsense, pure crap in other words.
