Cop refused to shoot black suspect to avoid becoming media’s new Darrin Wilson

And let himself get pistol-whipped as a result

Congratulations, media. You’ve done solid work here. The criminals know what the score is now and they’re taking full advantage - and tragically, so do the cops. Police officer conducts traffic stop. Tells suspect to stay in the car. Suspect gets out of the car and comes aggressively at the officer. The fact that the suspect has no gun and the cop is packing doesn’t cause the suspect to hesitate in the slightest. In fact, it’s to his advantage, and he knows it. Because if the cop fires his weapon to protect himself, you, media, will air the dashcam media while screeching, WHITE COP SHOOTS UNARMED BLACK MAN, and the next thing you know, Birmingham’s engulfed in riots, Al Sharpton’s on his way . . .

And this is all the cop can think about as the suspect bears down on him, so he lets the suspect take his gun and pistol-whip him, leaving him on the ground unconscious while idiots come by, take pictures of him lying there and mockingly post it on social media.

You’re damn right I blame the media. And so does the cop:

I disagree. This shows the public exactly why cops shoot "unarmed" people. He took one for the team. Maybe now the media (if they have *any* intelligence whatsoever) will give the benefit of the doubt to the cop.

And yes--I do know they have no intelligence. But maybe the public does

You know, when I was a kid I lived if not “on the streets”, pretty close to it. And sometimes I got mugged or beat up.

But no one got killed.

And, maybe in some ways I’m lucky, but the “shoot first, and ask questions later” crowd holds life pretty cheaply.

If it isn’t we’re getting close.

Problem is, the frog like the warm water...

What if he had been shot with his own gun instead of just being pistol whipped!

Would he still have a “white guilt” complex?

A suspect exiting a vehicle, aggressively approaching a cop, taking the cop’s gun, and beating the cop nearly to death ... well, that pretty much answers all the relevant questions about whether to shoot.

Cops DO get killed.

(Maybe one of the reasons for that oft-derided “privilege” is that some groups have generally learned: don’t do things which warrant getting shot.)

Nope. No more complex.
Mushy brain matter, maybe, but no more complex.

It’s obvious that if the person coming at the cop was white, the gun would’ve come out and eliminated the threat. Black lives matter. White lives don’t.

You're ignoring the problem.

I can see a cop having strong second thoughts about anything they do. To put it in military terms, the ROE's have become a lot tighter - although ROE's for cops seem now to be set by the media and politicians, making them even that much less clear.

If by “took one for the team”, you meant “let a violet felon gain control and use of his firearm”, then yes.

A local officer told me that he arrested 2 blacks in separate incidents the same day recently.
One was a DUI woman that crossed the center line and almost hit him head-on.. Don’t recall the other.
He mentioned as to whether he would be seen as ‘bigoted’ .

Extremely stupid thing to say. I know of course that TJ Hooker never loses a fight. Reality on the roadside can be very different.
Unless of course you believe that have any business being a cop, one must willingly and cheerfully ignore the near certainty of having your life destroyed if you shoot a black, no matter what they are doing.

The way I see it, he thought it was better to take his chances with that criminal not executing him than it was to trust that society would back him up.

SO more accurately, society doesn’t deserve a cop like him.

NO, it isn’t holding life cheaply. It is holding the life of an assailant less valuable than your own. You are blind if you do cannot see the difference in kid fights on the street then, with the violent beatings people are getting today.
Back then did your street friends attack the elderly? Women with kids? Unsuspecting people from behind? Did you gang up and have 10 or 15 thugs attacking one person?

Any of those things and I will happily value their life cheap. That’s on them. Want your life valued? Cherish mine.
