Donald Trump, Counterfeit Republican By GEORGE WILL August 12, 2015
In every town large enough to have two traffic lights there is a bar at the back of which sits the local Donald Trump, nursing his fifth beer and innumerable delusions. Because the actual Donald Trump is wealthy, he can turn himself into an unprecedentedly and incorrigibly vulgar presidential candidate. It is his right to use his riches as he pleases. His squalid performance and its coarsening of civic life are costs of freedom that an open society must be prepared to pay.
When, however, Trump decided that his next acquisition would be not another casino but the Republican presidential nomination, he tactically and quickly underwent many conversions of convenience (concerning abortion, health care, funding Democrats, etc.). His makeover demonstrates that he is a counterfeit Republican and no conservative.
He is an affront to anyone devoted to the project William F. Buckley began six decades ago with the founding in 1955 of National Review making conservatism intellectually respectable and politically palatable. Buckleys legacy is being betrayed by invertebrate conservatives now saying that although Trump goes too far, he has tapped into something, and therefore

As is the Republican Party, congress, and presidential nominees for decades.

Its right to be suspicious of Trump since he did give to Hitlery and since 2008 hasn't been seen at a Tea Party event.
Waiting for verification that Trump is a Conservative or just a Romney “severe” Conservative

I hate it when so many Freepers fail to see that destroying the GOPe and its hold on the levers of the Republican party's power is more important than any specific issue, with the exception of immigration, and Donald is right on that issue.
George Will is a counterfeit Republican, and has been one for at least two decades.

O.K.
Trump wants to build a border wall and deport illegals and enforce immigration laws.
Trump wants to dump regulations and Obamacare that are destroying the economy.
Trump wants to rebuild our military and take better of our veterans.
Trump wants to lower taxes and simplify the tax code.
Trump wants to repeal most or all of NAFTA and take steps to force China to stop manipulating their currency.
I can’t see one policy initiative here that any Conservative wouldn’t agree with.

Agreed. I have grown to deeply despise George Will with his uppity country-club Republican attitude, but he is correct that Trump is not a true conservative. Problem is that neither is George Will, so nobody supporting or leaning Trump will listen to him.
Cruz or lose!

Nobody knows that yet Colonel....and I wouldn’t be too quick to discount Trump...it’s not just some here supporting him, more and more are dropping their party affiliation because they don’t give a rats fanny what party he’s with.
If you think about we’ve already dropped both parties ourselves...so might as well understand that the political climate has changed and with it so are the voters.

What’s funny is how all these talking heads are trying to understand Donald’s popularity like its the mystery of the ages. They really are stupid, bought off, or both. And if they do manager to destroy him, its like killing the goose that lays the golden egg. Their “success” will sink them. Just like everyone else who is slamming Donald on these boards. If Donald gets the shaft, then they all do.

They shouldn’t but I’ll take stopping them from murdering countless thousands of children with a little carrot if that’s what it takes. But you are missing Trump’s point entirely, he is exposing the lie and hypocrisy of the left when they keep whining about all the ‘other things’ PP does for women, do you think PP would ever willing stop murdering children? So end of the day the answer is no funding at all.
