The annual ESPY awards are regarded as a joyous and tearful celebration designed to honor notable team champions and those incredible feats of individual fortitude. From the immortal "Don't Ever Give Up" speech delivered by an obviously frail Jim Valvano - the terminally ill coach who inspired millions with his emotional and defiant plea to find a cure for cancer - to the poignant final words of Stuart Scott - the recently deceased ESPN anchor, husband, and father - the ESPY's have embodied the physical prowess and perseverance of the human spirit for 22 years. In essence, they are the Oscars of the athletic world; attended by the biggest names in sports, if not all of society, and watched by insatiable fans from across the globe. Sadly none of that mattered Wednesday night when legacy descended into madness and a disgraceful display of gender-bending bigotry ensued. Bruce "Caitlyn" Jenner, the LGBT community, and progressive programmers were not to be denied their prideful place in infamy. After all, they "earned" it!
Giving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award to a 65 year-old cross-dresser instead of a young woman who continued to play basketball while dying from cancer, or a double-amputee war veteran who has persevered to succeed in marathons and CrossFit events, is irrefutable proof liberals possess absolutely no shame, common sense or respect for the people of this nation. Yes, America, why recognize and celebrate freedom, God, and the indomitable spirit of true role models when you can place gays and transvestites on a prime time pedestal of worship for your children to emulate and adore? Who knew wearing your momma's clothes 39 years after competing in the Olympics, or a collegiate football player sleeping with the same sex - i.e. Michael Sam, last year's award recipient - was such an arduous and miraculous achievement worthy of our highest praise? ESPN and ABC should not only be humiliated by their tactless display of nepotism, they should profusely apologize to Noah Galloway and the family of Lauren Hill for turning a moment of gratitude and remembrance into a political farce of historic proportions. If Arthur Ashe were alive today he would be disgusted by the crass exploitation of his memory and even moreso by the complete lack of respect shown towards two genuine heroes who truly embody sacrifice, grace and courage; regardless of their sexuality or preferred dressing habits. As a lifelong sports fan, but more importantly as a proud American, I salute these two inspirational souls for reminding us limitations are merely those obstacles we place before ourselves. God Bless you both and may Lauren forever rest in peace.
ESPN is not the network that the Rasmussens started...ESPN is garbage now...
Each sport already has its honors. Even if this was done right, it would just be the piling on of honors for those who had already received a bunch of honors.
Sort of like when they give a money prize to someone in a sport for winning the most money that year.
This is just another opportunity for ESPN to be as pretentious as Jim McCay was in the 70's and Costas and Jim Gray are trying to be now.
Bruce is awarded for getting a haircut and putting on a dress. Does that happen with everyone?
This sort of thing can happen because otherwise rational and moral people surrendered the right to outrage on these sorts of issues a long time ago. Why? I think it is because of the clever marketing of the left, labeling those who disagree as haters and bigots. What that did was put people on the defense. So a kind of hardwired psychology kicks in. People tend to 1) go on the defensive, or 2) try to convince everyone that some may hate but THEY are not haters and, 3) stake out an early compromise position they can live with that will also silence the opposition (something that wrongly assumes the opposition can be reasoned with).
People are generally weak and trusting. Few saw the calculating scheming behind the false charges. So they surrendered the position of outrage. It has become a virtue to not react, no matter how ludicrous the behavior. People have become afraid to react. Until that reverses and people stand up for truth again — STRONGLY and where appropriate with outrage, this will just get worse.
Notice that the left, after the immoral win at Supreme Court, is just mutating the battle into more attacks. They NEVER surrendered the right to display outrage. I heart a local mayor today rant on and on about how bigoted Christians are who oppose homo marriage. He was outraged. He is crazy, but his outrage still had an effect. No one calls the left on this hypocrisy. They can hate. They can yell. They can be outraged. They can speak (increasingly we cannot). So they have the foolishness they are promoting and we have the rational truth, but it is THEY who get the debate position of POWER. Therefore they win.
It’s been garbage for at least 20 years.
The PC Worldview makes me think even CNN is a bit more favorable than ESPN.
...”Bruce is awarded for getting a haircut and putting on a dress”...
I’d rather say he’s being awarded for flaunting his mental disorders in full view of the audience. Watch him continue to unravel as he’s already showing revealing signs that he is. Once the camera’s stop rolling on this sexual deviant he’ll crumble....if not before.
But the question remains - how is it possible that ESPN concluded that sports audiences want to see this shid? Or hear crazy editorial rants a la Olbermann or Costas? I’m sorry, it just does not line up with a true sports audience demographic I understand. But they do it anyway, and it has turned m away from ESPN. I kept seeing links online to the ESPY program, and avoided them all. Bruce Jenner will be a suicide in a matter of time. Celebrate that.
It’s three consecutive years of sexual “diversity” (so far):
2013 Robin Roberts - “I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends . . .”
2014 Michael Sam - kissing another man on TV as he gets an NFL draft pick for being gay
2015 Bruce Jenner - dressing like a woman and taking estrogen
It lines up very well with the demographics of people in the media. The other reason is that every time some sportscaster puts his foot in his mouth and every time an athlete says something offensive on a sports show it makes a channel and everybody affiliated with it a little more nervous. So when something like this comes along, they're all primed to play it safe with the PC police and call Bruce Kaitlyn and all the rest.
I don't know why they kept Olbermann around. Maybe he had so much energy that he just bulldozed through all objections -- until he finally ran out of steam.
“ESPN is garbage now.”
ESPN went down the proverbial cr@pper when it decided to broadcast Urkel’s first coronation..
It isn’t courage. It is psychosis, and ESPN is simply enabling.
Poor sick Bruce will most likely OD someday, depression/mental disorder’s will findly get the better of him..the cross dressing gender change did not fix his issue’s....one guess who gets blamed for that....
“Bruce Jenner will be a suicide in a matter of time.”
That’s usually how these sad stories play out....
How courageous is it, to “come out” as homosexual or “transwhatever” in today’s liberal world???
Geez, our culture and media celebrate people who come out on these issues. Our culture embraces and celebrates when someone announces being gay, or trans as Bruce Jenner has. These people become famous and celebrities for their actions. They don’t require “courage” in the traditional sense to announce LGBT status. Not in today’s world.
