Press Secretary Josh Earnest announced at today's briefing that the White House had been informed by the Army that Major Garrett "would be demoted to 2nd LT, confined to quarters for 3 weeks, and suffer the loss of pay and privileges for that period of time."

When asked if Obama was exerting undue command influence on the military justice system, Earnest said that this disciplinary action was being taken by the Army, that the White House had no role whatsoever in the proceedings, and referred all further questions to the Pentagon.
