. . . "he was at cloud level,' in a freaking lawn chair.
Dude, come on. You do know that Up was a movie, right? An animated movie, dude. You cant tie a hundred helium balloons together and use them to go flying. This is real life. It doesnt work that way, dude. Youre not getting up in the air sitting in a lawn chair you bought for $20 at the corner store, and youre not going flying, so just forget about this whole thing and . . . holy crap!
And sure enough, up went 26-year-old Daniel Boria of Calgary, all the way to what was described as cloud level at one point. And he did all this as a publicity stunt to promote his cleaning products company. I kid you not.
Of course, this is Canada, where theyll prosecute you if you preach the Gospel, so you have to know that if you do something like this theyre going to find a reason to arrest you. The reason? Hey! That chair was going to come down eventually and it might fall on someones head!
So what was his plan for coming down? Did he have a peashooter or BB gun to pop one balloon at a time?
some guy in Az or California did that years ago., strapped about 20 or more weather ballons to a lawn chair, and took off with a pellet gun so he could shoot them to control his height
but, he dropped it. whoops,
evenutally he came back down, got arrested and wound up on the tonight show, or Letterman. his 15 minutes of fame.
That was the whole point all along...

Yes. In LA. He drifted into the traffic pattern at LAX and they had to divert traffic. He then drifted into the San Bernardino Mountains and came down on a power line but unhurt.
I believe, somewhere there is an audio of his exploit.

The guy was lucky he dropped his pellet gun.
Using it to pick off the balloons one at at time might have been ok. But chances were that unless he was prettrlt precise with his aim, the pellet would take out one balloon, then punch clean through to take out a second, and maybe a third and even a fourth.
Which wouldn’t have been ok.
