This post is a long time in the making, and spurred on by the significance of today's date (July 4th!) and a recent post made by ETL about the Revolutionary War series (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3307499/posts). (I'm a first-time poster of a thread, so hopefully got this down right!)
While Im busy watching the very first episode of this excellent historic series, on this night of July 4th, 2015, as fireworks go off in the distance, and seeing graphical representations of events leading up to our own Revolutionary War (such as the turning of Franklins political sensibilities toward the American cause while in England), I cant but help think about how we, the Free Republic community, in this time and place, have all the elements of our early Forefathers within our grasp (as diverse a group as we are) and share what they felt was necessary in the course of human events (to steal a phrase). Why dont we consider our mutually sacred honors and fortunes similarly and have a representative physical gathering of our own choosing to discuss and hopefully plot out our countrys next moves at securing liberty for the long term, in light of recent setbacks and what seems to be the fading influence of the once powerful groundswell of Tea Party initiatives? I for one would be so inclined to gather physically for such an assembly (as a representative of the great State of Wyoming!) and begin discussions with other concerned FReepers in earnest. What say ye?
I say the Feds will enjoy this thread.
Probably. Maybe this topic is verboten and 3rd-rail? Just thinking about what has transpired the last few years, what will follow it before the next election, and what 4 or 8 more years of this will look like if things go as I fear. We may not be recognizable. I suspect the Feds of their day enjoyed reading Thomas Paine's work as well, at first.
You passed. :-)
Wow, that’s weird. How’d you see it? Just testing my referring to a post of mine in a thread. Never did that before at FR, so tried it out in one of my old posts (my only thread post ever). Obviously it worked.
Regards.
Good evening.
That’s what is meant when one says they are “bumping” a thread. Every time you reply to any random thread, the comment goes straight to the top of the feed (for those who are viewing most recent comments).
So your comment was (briefly) at the top of the feed, and the title seemed interesting.
I’m actually bumping the thread right now by replying again, in fact.
Every so often, someone (often not from FR) will be researching something and then read an old, old thread on FR about that topic (say, a murder or scientific story or historical event or something) and will create an account and reply. Then 5 or 6 more will reply to the original post as though it was a new thread. But something will appear anachronistic (like, FReepers who have been long banned will appear in the thread) and then when you look at the date, it will be from 5 or 10 years ago. But the thread will have been “born again.” :-)
Just FYI, World's Greatest is considered bigger than Number 1. Take it from Izzy Mandelbaum.
(This is a "ping" to a few Seinfeld friends, by the way. You can "ping" and "bump" at the same time.)
“By the way, are you “No one” or “Number one”?”
Coincidentally, yesterday someone asked me in Mail if I was DJT. I took that to mean The Donald and said he’s Number one, I’m no one. Felt bad to let him down.
It wasn't exactly Captain Trips but it did leave a lingering sense that not all was ever going to be the same again and once "Werewolves Of London" by Warren Zevon stopped playing, we all put that caps back on our bottles and retreated to the clubhouse.
