Help With Virus/Malware (Vanity)

Posted on 06/10/2015 5:10:39 PM PDT by Portcall24

My wife got a new computer and somehow she has picked up 7769domain virus. I ran Malwarebytes to no avail. It's still there. Searching a couple of places like Spyhunter and others offer help but I'm not sure if they are legit. Sure could use some help.

this seems to have the steps you need to clear your computer I have worked in IT for almost 20 years and I highly recommend the free version of Avast! to protect a Windows computer.

ADW Cleaner is more comprehensive than Malwarebytes. I have and use both.

Get ADW Cleaner here:

https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

Instructions for using ADW are here:

Let me know if you need further help.

Disconnect from Internet; pull ether net cord or disable wireless. Reboot into safe mode and run malwarebytes. Reboot and see if ok after connecting to Internet.

“If malarebytes can’t take care of it maybe Kaspersky’s can.”

You gotta be kidding - weren’t they themselves hacked yesterday!

Stinger and Vipre Rescue.

Both are stand alone executable files.

Download, copy to a usb stick

Insert stick in infected computer

Start / Computer / click on the usb drive / click on the Stinger file to run it.

Same with Vipre Rescue...

http://www.superantispyware.com/ is the best free one right now.

You're kidding, right? That's one of the "anti-malware" companies that were hijacking people's computers and charging them for the "fix" ...

Yes Spyhunter is legit. However it tells you during the install that you can run the scanner without charge, but in order to take action on the results you have to pay for a subscription, which is like 40 for six months.

However if you choose to uninstall spyhunter, it will offer you the same subscription for 10 bucks.

It is supposed to be an excellent anti malware suite though.

ADW Cleaner and Malware Bytes work best when booted into SAFE mode.

No I'm not.

SuperAntiSpyware is a rogue anti-spyware, a total scam that is distributed with a help of various malware like Trojans, spam e-mail attachments, fake online scanners and others. Immediately after launch, it may start to scan your computer and reports a lot of various infections that will not be fixed unless you first purchase the software. I had the "pleasure" of removing it from my parents computer over the internet, from 350 miles away. I'll not be forgetting that nightmare anytime soon.

Thanks. I googled it after seeing the initial post and just read up on it.

Duqu 2.0 is a version of Stuxnet? And Kaspersky got hacked by it? That's not good. They're supposed to be one of the most respected cyber-security research firms in the world and they got hacked by a version of Stuxnet?

I'd have thought Kaspersky would have defenses for that ...
