Guns carried for defense are used for deterrence far more often than they are actually fired. It appears to be the universal experience of armed citizens, police, and criminals alike.

Before deprecating Mr. Boyle’s jocular picture, consider that he is a happily married man with a successful career.

I dunno, I agree with Dave Grossman: if you are legally authorized (don’t start with me) to carry a weapon and you walk outside your home without it, you have chosen to be a sheep.

“For my part, I don’t see myself continuing to walk into Subway or go grocery shopping with a loaded .25-caliber pistol in my front pocket, or my .357 magnum on my hip.”

From the looks of it from that picture, seems he plans to sit in front of the computer and choke his chicken. To each his own.

In fairness to Mr. Boyle, the stock photo seems to be a couple of decades old. Notice the antique cathode ray tube (crt) in the background.

I never leave the house without my concealed weapon. I drew it once and the two perps fled before it cleared my pocket; one of the shouting, “It’s cool, dude!” I will probably never need it again. But if I do I’ll have it. If I don’t, well that’s great.

My sister has a concealed permit and several guns she never carries. She says she’ll carry them if she needs them. No amount of logic will convince her it is better to carry and not need it than not to carry and need it. She has a dozen illogical excuses not to carry.

I think the same way as you. I hope I never need it but I will have it if I do.

If he shoots somebody with that .25 auto, and they find out about it, they’re gonna be pissed.

Before deprecating Mr. Boyle’s jocular picture, consider that he is a happily married man with a successful career. Even married men need to “choke the chicken” every now and then. I will now go put myself in timeout..ps nra, goa, grassroots N.C. life member...

About 10 years ago I went into a Subway shop about 9:00pm and met the robber coming out the door. HE had a bag of money in one hand and a pistol in the other. We stopped about 3 feet apart. HE had his pistol in hand, I had my glock in my pocket pointed at him. HE did not point the gun at me- so he lived. I have been a concealed carrier for about 15 years.. Have’nt had to shoot anyone yet..

Yes, that is a catch-22. My challenge is that with warm weather, hard to wear concealed, which is my preference. Wore it last week and from some stares I got when sitting down (first outside at a car wash bench and later at my kid's karate school) it was clear that the holstered gun tucked inside my back pants was still obvious through the shirt while sitting down. I carry a 9mm Makarov.

What is your solution?

I use a chest band holster for my Ruger LCP (gotta wear a t-shirt under it, which sucks in the summertime in Texas) or carry in a 5.1 bag (hard to get to). My S&W SIgma .40 cal is a bit more of a challenge - usially a Maxxpedition bag or a shoulder holster with a sports jacket. Thinking of an ankle holster for the Ruger and a small o fthe back holster for the Sigma (I wear a lot of guayaberas).

Just saying. The local Applebees restaurant, New Philadelphia, Ohio, has just recently posted their “no guns” sign. I’ll not eat there again.
