NYTimes -Surviving Child Sexual Abuse
NYT- Survivng Child Abuse ^

Posted on 06/01/2015 6:36:37 AM PDT by AveryJarhman

June 1, 2015, Charles Blow, NYTimes, "It can take decades, or even a lifetime, to recover if recovery is even emotionally available for the survivor."

Can the same can be said for child/teen victims of emotional and physical abuse they experience when their unskilled, immature single moms irresponsibly introduce them to a life filled with struggle and pain in a community populated by depressed people?

Quoting a January 2011 LAWeekly interview with 2015 Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar:

"Lamar's parents moved from Chicago to Compton in 1984 with all of $500 in their pockets. "My mom's one of 13 siblings, and they all got six kids, and till I was 13 everybody was in Compton," he says.

"I'm 6 years old, seein' my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin' dope in front of the apartment. My moms and pops never said nothing, 'cause they were young and living wild, too. I got about 15 stories like 'Average Joe.'"

Yes, sexual abuse is harmful and often leads individual victims to experience a lifetime of nightmares. However, the environment of emotional child abuse/neglect Kendrick clearly describes appear to harm scores if not thousands of children every day.

Dr. Joy DeGruy eloquently writes/speaks about 'cognitive dissonance' and its relation to Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.

Imagine you're Kendrick, being schooled by you're teachers and society@large to be a good kid, then imagine Kendrick walking home from school to Lord knows what?

Is Kendrick's life tormented by "cognitive dissonance?"

A rhetorical "set-up" to prepare us for the introduction of a policy of having the government take children at birth so they can be "properly" raised, with no "privilege", no "abuse", and ALL children being treated and indoctrinated in exactly the same way.

And it'll all be done in the name of "protecting the children".

Ironically, that type of government school/boarding school is just ripe for sexual predators.

The government already did that, they were called orphanages. In the 50’s there were several orphanages just in the city of Providence. Some were government institutions and some were run by the Catholic church.

Will the NY Times make the logical conclusion that single welfare women have no business having children they cannot properly care for, and that the welfare system which facilitates and subsidizes their having children they cannot properly care for, should be abolished?

No, their conclusion will be that MORE government “programs” are needed to “properly train” young women for unwed-motherhood - starting in kindergarten.

Oh, wait. Your question was rhetorical, wasn’t it?

Well someone needs to be birthin’ babies since white yuppies are too good to “put their careers on hold” by having kids.

Hi, PB.

It is not just the NYT ignoring the obvious.

Witnessing the overwhelming approval and public adulation Baltimore grandmother Toya Graham received, even after the public learned she is a single mom who at eighteen began building a large family causing them to struggle and endure hardships that better family planning would have avoided, tells me the public has never witnessed the harm irresponsible young moms do to their developing children...emotional abuse and neglect that causes many children to question why they were born in the first place.

I read a recent report indicating an increase in black teen kids and young adults taking their own lives. I spent twelve years witnessing many moms damage their children during a critical period in their development.

During those twelve years I regularly witnessed the emotional pain and physical injuries victims of child abuse inflicted on their peaceful neighbors while venting their anger, frustration and disappointment with mom and/or dad for introducing them to such a messed up life.

It would be nice if the NYT and Mr. Charles M. Blow would recognize the obvious, boldly spelling it out across their front page in plain English that Harvard and blue collar folks can easily understand.

Is Baltimore Grandmother Toya Graham 'Mom of The Year'?

Ghetto women become moms because of the benefits of being a mom. Take away, or seriously reduce, the welfare payouts, remove the incentives, and the problem will be reduced.

One of the current scams is for teen mom to declare she "cannot take care of" her kids, and gives them up to foster care. Grandma volunteers to be foster mom (relatives are given preference). Foster care pays grandma per child, and this is not subject to TANF time limits.

In New York, foster care rates include: $746/month for a child over 12 (this goes up to $1,818/mo if the child is deemed "special needs", which provides an incentive to get the child to qualify as such), plus up to $83/mo for clothing allowances, plus likely eligibility for food stamps, Section 8, etc, etc.

Hell, I'm middle class and I don't spend that much money per child to feed and clothe them.

PB, it makes me even sadder learning a depressed, emotionally damaged woman may use harmful drugs during pregnancy, avoid prenatal care possibly giving life to a physically or mentally damaged child she will profit from.

Even sadder is knowing there are quite a few people who embrace these types of mind blowing values.

Thanks for sharing, PB.
