Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) sought to distance himself Thursday from an essay he wrote in the 1970s that discusses rape fantasies.
Michael Briggs, a spokesman for the 2016 White House contenders campaign, called the essay a "dumb attempt at dark satire in an alternative publication, according to CNN.
Briggs added that the writing "in no way reflects his views or record on women, saying it was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the '70s.
The essay, published by the Vermont Freeman in 1972, discussed violent sexual fantasies.
In it, Sanders wrote that a mans typical fantasy is a woman tied up, a woman abused, and that a woman fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously.
Do you know why the newspapers with articles like 'Girl, 12, raped by 14 men' sell so well? To what in us are they appealing?" the essay asks.
Briggs statements to CNN seemed to indicate Sanders campaign expected the candidates history to be brought into public light.
When Bernie got into this race, he understood that there would be efforts to distracts voters and the press from the real issues confronting the nation today, Briggs said.
Dead meat walking.
Did he torture cats for laughs, too?
I think he can be salvaged. He just needs to say that he changed it to heterosexual fantasies because he was afraid to say what he really meant.
Of course, when the Rats do that to conservatives, that's perfectly OK>
I wonder what’s in the Martin O’Malley file, the Elizabeth Warren file....
It didn’t take Hillary’s campaign long to trot out this bit of information it’s been keeping under wraps, did it?
Probably something. You can bet if there is a “there” there, Hillary has it.
The Clinton operatives will have to dig deep for the dirtiest stuff on anyone who gets in their way, so as to out do the landfill of the Clinton Crime Family’s past/present/future deeds.
The thing is, Bubba has probably actually done everything Bernie wrote about.
He’s probably aiming at being Jim Webb’s VP pick.
“To what in us are they appealing?” ????
A genuine Shakespeare we got here!
Great comment.
Sanders: 1972 rape essay was dumb attempt at satire
Sanders: 2015 POTUS run is dumb attempt at politics
It was fashionable in the early 70’s to treat rape lightly before the Feministas arrived on the scene to say it was wrong and the real victims of rape and abuse got their say.
I watched “Laugh In” back then and there were skits using the stars of the “Adam 12” police series, Martin Milner and Kent McCord.
In one of them a mock radio call comes down while they are sitting in their car reporting that the actress Raquel Welch is being “assaulted” at some intersection.
Milner shrugs at McCord and says “Who are we supposed to help?”
That’s the way was in this country when we came out of the Swinging 60’s into the 70’s. “Don’t be a prude” the adults said to me.
The Democratic Party leadership is filled with reprehensible, vulgar people.
He’ll get a pass, they will claim that 40 years is long enough. This of course would never work for a Republican.
Ordinarily, but stuff like this for a Democrat doesn’t come out from the git-go unless there are those on the Democrat side against him. Otherwise, it would be a conservative discovery that took years of FOIAs, lawsuits and spying to happen. This is Hillary, for sure. And they will be on him line a “Weiner”. Anthony, that is. :0)
Remember the huge ruckus about Mitt putting his dog on top of his car?
Yes.
You’d have thought that he’d murdered his children.
