TX: Public Hearing on Licensed Open Carry in Senate on Monday, 18 May, 2015
Gun Watch ^ | 15 May, 2015 | Dean Weingarten

Texas open carry is moving again.  Because the licensed open carry bill had an amendment added in the House, the process in the Senate needs to be repeated.   The amendment seems to be simple common sense.  Police may not harass open carriers unless there is a crime involved.   Stopping them to check on a license is not allowed, just the same way that automobile drivers may not be stopped simply to check on their license.  Texas is only one of six states that does not allow the open carry of modern handguns in most public locations.

In the Senate, HB 910 with the House Amendment has been referred to the Senate State affairs committee.  It is scheduled for a public hearing on 18 May, 2015.

If the Senate as a whole can be brought to vote on the bill, and accept the House amendment, it can be engrossed and sent to Governor Abbott for signature.

Given the high level of public support for the bill, and the high level of media antagonism for it, the potential is there for it to be delayed until the legislature adjourns.

Movement to a public hearing seems a positive step toward passage.

There is a rumor that Campus Carry will be heard in the House, as well.

I’m certainly in favor of the 2nd Amendment, and conceal and carry very often. Open carry does not bother me at all—except that it should not be mandatory. I like to have the option of conceal and carry.

As a woman, I don’t want to have open to open carry when I am in a dress. IOW, I want to have the choice—

I wish they would pass Campus Carry. I am tired of disarming when my work takes me on college campuses.

Concealed means concealed. I never disarm. Unless they have metal detector they will not know.

I no longer pay any attention whatsoever to any of those restrictions.  I now carry anywhere.

This would be simple if it weren’t for Strauss Subversives and ComDems.

Dang it I thought this was a done deal and on its way to the Governor for his signature.

Now this shiite

The Senate could drag their feet for one amendment and all could go out the window.

Am I right or wrong??

Dang right. Our right and our choice.

Now the Texas elected officials need to quit dragging their feet and get this done.

I kinda doubt the Senate would drag their feet over the one simple amendment added to the bill, especially considering that it's such a logical tweak to what is already a very good piece of legislation.

Also, let's not forget how well this issue polls with Texas voters AND the fact that the Senate already passed the first version, prior to the House voting on it.

Yep. made it through yesterday with the amendment.

Now I think it has to go back to the house and then to the Governor.
