Ol’ Ed is an Iowegian, and was an Iowa US Congressman in the ‘70s. His then wife, Marc’s mother, was in Congress for a term too, but from Pennsylvania.

Sounds like Chelsea married into a family just like her own. Mom and Dad must be so proud.
The granddaughter will have such good role models to look up to.

WTF?
The past tense of plead is pled. Somebody as Snopes needs to hire an editor.

Well, it looks like the in-laws are almost broke now (also)...well, how does one explain the things we do for love? /sarc
But seriously, Chelsea really could have married into a more successful crooked family...maybe not the best looker, not the smartest, but at least she seems reasonably pleasant.

The son is NOT responsible for the sins of the father.

No, but a nut frequently falls close to the tree.

That's right...but the son learns from his father and will do one of two things...be the opposite or similar. The fact the son has married into a know corrupt family says he's made his decision who he will be like....like attracts like...and in this case guaranteed protection.

The scam had deadly consequences...
Two African immigrants trying to run a Nigerian “black money” scam on a New York man. Police say the men were killed in retaliation by the victim of the fraud and have identified the suspect as the cousin of NFL player Jonathan Vilma.
Both men had been shot in the head inside Vilma’s Long Island, New York home, which was littered with pieces of the black paper used in the scam.
Authorities say the scheme has ensnared many prominent Americans,... including U.S. Congressman Ed Mezvinsky, who served a prison term for his involvement in the fraud,.... and Dr. Timothy Sloan, a California heart surgeon who lost his life savings to a con artist.
