Today, April 2, 2015, Governor Sam Brownback of Kansas will sign SB 45, also known as the constitutional carry bill, into law. The law will go into effect upon publication in the Kansas Register. The bill restores second amendment rights in Kansas close to what they were when the Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791.
The Kansas House Committee on Federal and State affairs passed SB 45, the constitutional carry bill on the 18th of March, 2015.
The bill was supported by the Kansas State Rifle Association, The National Rifle Association, and The National Association for Gun Rights. Opposition to the bill came from The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Kansas Grandmothers Against Gun Violence, and the City of Overland Park. Private citizens testified on both sides. The NRA had this to say about the bill:
This legislation gives Kansans the freedom to choose the best method of carrying for them, based on their attire, gender and/or physical attributes. However, this legislation would also keep in place the current permitting system so that people who obtain a permit could still enjoy the reciprocity agreements that Kansas has with other states and their NICS exemption when purchasing a new firearm. From cjonline.com:
Gov. Sam Brownback pledged to sign legislation Thursday allowing Kansas adults to carry concealed firearms without first obtaining a license or undergoing weapon training.
(24) No license shall be required under this section for a loaded or unloaded pistol or revolver carried in a purse, handbag, satchel, other similar bag or briefcase or fully enclosed case.Legislation in Maine is moving forward; sponsors of the bill are already more than a majority in both houses.
Now lets get open carry passed in Texas
Withholding applause until after he announces a “clarification”.
Is Brownback strong enough and articulate enough to stand up to the crazies when they resort to mob rule? (that’s what it was in Indiana)
If this is anything like the State of Arizona trying to enforce federal immigration policy DOJ is working on filing suit against the State of Kansas.
I never guarantee anything, but he stood up to the slings and arrows regarding school funding when he cut taxes. And it’s just come out that the Kansas economy is booming because of it, so that should help stiffen his backbone.
He is supposed to do it in a ceremony this afternoon. It does not give the old media much time to raise a fake “uproar”.
Yesterday, Rush said that the uproar in Kansas is fake astroturf. Only 10 people making it look like there are thousands, because of a vulnerability in twitter accounts.
The left is very good at that sort of “image” creation.
Well, if this stands it’ll be political victory #1 this year for the regular folks.
The Left is getting more confident that they can get what they want, when they want it, how they want it - and no one will call them on it.
Brownback is a decent guy. My mother sat next to him and talked on a flight back from DC. He was a real personable guy. He was flying coach.
Wish we could trade Nixon for Brownback.
I’m not sure this is a good idea. One of the best tools for getting thugs off the street and in prison is by charging them with unlawful possession of a firearm, which is invariably going to be the case when they commit a crime, which could add 5 years to their sentence. Now even thugs can carry legally.
I went through the training and permit process and don’t think that’s unreasonable for a law-abiding person.
“Now even thugs can carry legally.”
Let’s think about this. If they are felons then they can’t legally carry right? So they are breaking the law right? Why would we disarm law-abiding citizens?
If possessed in commission of a crime they are charged.
Nixon will be gone, just like Sebilious.
Funny thing that Nixon was used by Obolma and Holder in Ferguson with the promise of an appointment in the administration. When things didn’t turn out as planned they dropped him like the political piece of trash they all are. He was snookered.
That bastard Nixon’s finger prints where all over the scandal when the Feds got the list of CCW permit licenses illegally. The Kansas City Star had the evidence and suppressed it.
From your lips to God's ears.
Unfortunately, we have democrat in all but name Strauss in the Texas legislature.
Why is it that Minnesotans so often tend to reflexively oppose other people's freedoms?

It is already illegal to possess a firearm in the commission of a crime. There is no valid reason that the possession of a firearm should itself be a crime.
Now even thugs can carry legally.
It is already illegal for convicted felons to possess firearms. If they haven't been convicted of a felony and they aren't otherwise committing a crime, they aren't "thugs". Unless, of course, by thug you really mean black people.
I went through the training and permit process and dont think thats unreasonable for a law-abiding person.
I also went through Minnesota's required permit training. As evidenced by my experience with the training and the poor legal reasoning you have shown above, it is clear that the training we both received is essentially worthless.
