Wow two reasons not to watch all rolled up into one.
Neil is a lunatic, but I think he is a great artist. Of course, he’s like Dylan — many people just don’t see the charm.
I thought this was pretty cool.
I live near the “Old Town School of Folk Music”, so half the time I go out for lunch, there is some crusty beatnik with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica around his neck, doing a bad Neil Young or Dylan impersonation. So that pretty much ruins my enjoyment of the guy’s music.
Fallen nailed it!
Neil’s mother Edna Ragland “Rassy” Young, was a member of the Daughter’s of American Revolution. She was an American of French ancestry. Neil was born in 1945. He has dealt with polio, and still has some level of epilepsy. All three of Neils children are disabled to some degree. Both sons have cerebral palsy, and the girl has epilepsy like her dad.
Sometimes real artists do learn through their suffering, or become heavily influenced.
Pretty cool!
Jimmy nails it. To hear them both side by side alternating only proved the accuracy. Amazing.
Well that deserves a Dylan quote:
You’ll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above
And I’ll never know the same about you — your holiness or your kind of love
And it makes me feel so sorry.
That is a well stated existentialist truth. We can only live our lives and experience (in a solitary manner) what we know or believe to know.
One thing I’ve always liked about Neil Young he writes songs with lyrics that rhyme.
I’ve said this before: if I refused to listen to the music of every artist that was politically to the left of me I’d be sitting in the dark right now listening to Anita Bryants greatest hits. Neil’s music is great. his politics suck real donkey.
CC
Carson already did that, with WIllie Nelson.
Agreed. Extremely well done.
It was great. Fallon does this SO well, keeping a straight face, totally in character the whole time. He looked over at Neil Young once and I thought “this is it! He’s gonna crack and smile” - but he was just emphasizing the line he was singing - “old man, look at my life” - Fallon has a lot of talent. I can get last the political crap and enjoy the show most of the time.
Letterman - NOT. Guy drives me up the wall with the lefty BS.
I loved how Jimmy cast a sideways glance at Neil Young as he sang “Old man, look at my life, I’m a lot like you are.”
Great duet, thanks!

I thought Fallon was a talentless dunce on Saturday Night Live, he never showed any talent, just kept giggling, but I’ve seen him do amazing comedy on his show, he’s a really good impressionist and funny comdeian.
I wonder why SNL never used those talents of his...
Ed
Me too ... sometimes we aught’a just lay our shit aside and just enjoy humanity ... fallon is talented and that was one enjoyable lap over.
