As a public school teacher I see this all the time: One of the greatest reasons why it happens is because the weed lobby is not honest about the effects of weed on people.
1. It makes you lazy.
2. It makes you stupid.
3. It’s essentially a waste of time during your youth, when you should be spending it creating a foundation for later.
4. It DOES lead to other drugs.
5. It’s ILLEGAL (in most states)
It’s very sad because most kids think that weed is a panacea, when it’s as dangerous as other drugs - it soaks into the fatty tissue in your brain for a month.
Drug and Alcohol addiction doesn’t happen in a vacuum. If she smoked pot at 12, then she was heading into troubled waters from the git. Maybe you were in a bad neighborhood, not wealthy enough to take care of the problem right away ... as in boarding school or Junior Military Academy. Maybe you were too rich and became an enabler — spoiled her with endless supply of money for drugs. Maybe perhaps your family wasn’t functioning properly?
Pot is not a gateway drug just like guns don’t make people go on killing rampages.
For people near or over 50, Pot is a very good drug given the right strain. It keeps me alive and enjoying life where I otherwise would have hard times due in large part to health maladies. One of the primary reasons I like Marijuana is it keeps me off the psychotropics. Everybody I know over 50 is on psychotropics — prozac, zoloft, celexia — Just what the Government wants. Zombie people not causing political problems as we’re brought to hell in a hand basket.
I pray for your daughter and you and hope the situation self-repairs itself in full and for a happy ending.
And it was illegal when she first tried it. Little girls shouldn't be exposed to lots of things that adults do... but the answer isn't in big government banning everything for adults.
In fact, I would argue that the more we rely on big government to tell us what we should or shouldn't do the less we rely on ourselves and our families, and that makes us more susceptible to danger in the long run.
All drugs are not bad, you ever take an aspirin or tylenol, cough syrup, smoke a cigarette or take a drink of booze. How about coffee, tea or a coke. Chocolate and some foods are drugs also as they stimulate the body, meaning it is a drug. You youngsters think you know everything and try to impart your limited wisdom on people that has been there and done that.
I forget that some freepers equate water and meth as equally dangerous
Legalization has nothing to do with it... it's always been available, and always will be... legal or not. Addiction is addiction, regardless of the substance-du-jour. One needs to deal with the addiction itself.
Cement -- YES. Blaming the booze, the pot, the "disease," for the problem is like blaming a gun for a shooting. The alcohol isn't what spoiled a beloved's life, and blaming it on the alcohol has given him a sympathetic out.
It's all behavioral. It's very difficult to accept. Thinking of it as a disease relieves self-responsibility, but if addiction is a disease, it's self-inflicted and self-cured, even if that self-cure requires the Lord. The truth is that addiction is behavioral, and in it lies as best a "solution" as one can find.
Your story is heartbreaking. Prayers up for all of you.
If only the liberals who endorse and promote drug use could see the harm done personally to our youth, maybe they would take a step back.
Sorry for your troubles. Just wondering, does she also smoke cigarettes? I’ve known quite a few people with addiction problems, both drugs and alcohol, including some near and dear to me who died young as a result. Every single one I’ve ever known really started out smoking cigarettes, and never quit. IMHO if there is a such a thing as a gateway drug to addiction that’s it.
I also agree with what someone said above, there are small percentage of people who are just much more susceptible to becoming addicted to anything than others. Unfortunately your daughter sounds like one of those. I hope she turns it around.
I've never endorsed nor promoted drug use - so why did you post this to me?
Exactly.
First and foremost you must accept the fact that you cannot help her. She is the only person that can help herself, it is not about getting help it is about her and only her making a decision to live or die. Either one gets to a point in ones life that one reaches an epiphany or one lives a short miserable life, and nobody outside that person can make a difference, or make the decision to stop doing drugs. I apologize if this sounds cold hearted but it is the truth.
Only one poster here promoted his own drug use for him personally . Other than him, I am not aware of anyone else here promoting drug use, many of have denounced nanny state Nazism, telling a free people what they can and can not do to pursue life, liberty and happiness.
“conserving freedom”, You need to get involved in this thread. Here is some more of those innocent victims which you claim don’t exist.
all drugs are bad, but you will be hearing all sorts of lame excuses for pot on this forum.

Indeed.
And more than a few replies blaming him for this problem.
Oh well. What can you expect from FR’s infamous pro-dope crowd.
CF is already here.
Blaming the victim and spreading lies and disinformation.
When the plague swept through Europe it killed like every third person. That some people are immuned is no reason to expose those who aren't.
Yes, some people can handle marijuana and it does not screw up their lives. A *LOT* of other people cannot handle it and it does.
Should we just throw those people away? Should our laws only reflect what the strong can survive?
My experience is that weed is VERY bad for people with mental issues. I knew people who could smoke weed all day and still go to class. I knew people who would smoke weed and become a waste case. Two of my college roommates were addicted to weed. Dawn until bedtime was weed time.
But the one thing about weed is that people are willing to smoke it all day long. I honestly don’t know anyone that drinks all day.
And you have correctly identified the person who victimized her. Were it not for these people spreading this disease, we might be rid of it.
Yes Libertarians, teaching someone else to do drugs is an INJURY to them.
It did not start because your daughter started smokoing weed. It started because she has an addictive personality. Lots of people try weed and even the harder drugs your daughter has and can turn it off. It sounds like your daughter is not one that can or will on her own.
Your choices are to get her into professional rehab if she will or to sit back and do nothing while the drugs ruin her life. You are not in control of the situation. You can only try and hope or give up. Either option is reasonable. Most dont get to the give up part until they are exhausted at having tried everything.
I know who you’re talking about. And yes, that stoner is on the thread too.
But ConservingFreedom - while denying he uses it - is worse. A retread troll spreading lies and disinformation about the stuff.
Oh look - here he comes now with his usual 3 question reply to any comments anyone makes to challenge him.
