My daughter will turn 19 this month. She is our fifth child. She has also been the most worrying to us as she started using drugs a long time ago. She said she first smoked weed at age 12. Since then she has gone on the try many other drugs to include meth, cocaine, pills and LSD and a few others I cant name. Last year she was in intensive care for 8 days. She has also been in jail about seven or eight times and gone through rehab twice. She is currently living with her mother and I at home but things are getting very tense. She broke up with her boyfriend and says that the stress of breakup makes her want to go get high and chill with her friends. Her friends are not true friends as they are also on drugs. Every time she hangs out with them she stays wasted for a couple days and I had to take her to the ER twice due to overdose on alcohol. Add to all this she has been beat up several times and raped twice that she has admitted to. When you add into this chaos the fact that my wife suffers from a mental illness which is made worse with stress it gets even more chaotic. Now I am at the point where I will soon have to make the choice of allowing my wife to be hospitalized because of her mental illness or I put my daughter out because of the strife she is causing. Weve offered her all the help in the world and she continues to go on binges and tell us that what we offer wont help. The last time she got wasted she told us all to Go f*** ourselves. That night she left the house and was brought home by the police when they found her walking down the highway. As a parent I love my daughter endlessly. But I dont see how (or why) I should continue to allow her to destroy the rest of the family. But at the same time I feel guilty for what I am considering. We cant force her into treatment as she is an adult and Im afraid that she will either end up in prison or dead. All this started I believe because she started smoking weed. The weed lowered her inhibitions and resistance and she started doing other drugs. So I truly believe that weed is a gateway drug and should never be legalized. If someone needs it for medicinal purposes they should have to go to a pharmacy for it just like we do with other prescription medications. It hurts me to do it, but I think I may be evicting her from the house today when I get home from work.
You don't understand that constitutional destruction occurs if you go the other way and legalize drugs.
You have no grasp of how this idea worked out in the past. I suggest you learn about it.

I didn't blame the girl. I'm saying that the fact that pot is legal FOR ADULTS now in a couple of states had nothing to do with her situation.

I read all the posts on this thread and don’t remember seeing where CF said everyone should be exposed to drugs. I did see where he questioned the effectiveness of the WOD and whether or not MJ should be illegal.
Since some people can’t digest milk as well others should milk be illegal and since Indians can’t handle alcohol should alcohol be illegal.
I understand arguing in absolutes, and stacking the deck so that there's only a "slippery slope" of unintended consequences on one side.
About what? The OP? Shame about his daughter, a tough problem. I don't think MJ is the root of the problem there.

Yes, you guys did. The first reaction was that it was somehow the 12 year old girl’s fault. That she must be an addict or some absurd rationalization.
A 12 year old girl should not be smoking pot, period.
What was most educational was that none of you pointed out this fact until you were called out on it. It is clear that unrestricted use is more important than the safety of children.
It would be more to the point if you simply said "I can't comprehend your argument. Could you explain it in simpler terms?"
The point is, that different people have different physiological responses to different chemicals. We are not all stamped out of the same cookie cutter. What is harmless to some, is deadly to others, and people need to be aware of the fact that drugs kill and wreck some people even though others can seemingly deal with them without problems.
It would certainly result in a very low rate of recidivism.

MJ is the problem for, let me repeat because you seem to be missing this point (maybe intentionally or maybe it is you who are “ignorant”), A 12 YEAR OLD CHILD!
So, yes I was right all along. Your agenda is more important than the safety of a young child and this is why I will never support legalization. Thank you for making my point for me.
So why stop at drugs?
It is a mockery of the word "freedom" to equate it to drug usage. You might just as well to the freedom of buggering animals. It has nothing to do with freedom, and everything to do with hedonistic indulgence.

You haven't read enough threads. CF has explicitly stated that he believes all drugs should be legalized. Don't take my word for it, just ask him.

No one is suggesting making milk or alcohol illegal. The point which you are failing to grasp is that if people have physiological differences which predispose them to reacting differently when exposed to these substances, then perhaps you can understand that there are a lot of people who will react differently when exposed to Marijuana.
I personally know a lot of worthless bums who want to sit around all day and smoke weed. I hear from a bunch of you that you know people who smoke marijuana that are go getters and have no bad consequences from usage.
Again, it is foolish to assume that everyone will react exactly the same when exposed to the same chemicals. What may be harmless to some can be dangerous to others.
A family friend of ours had been in and out of rehab for the better part of a decade living with his parents the last 2 years. They finally had had enough and kicked him out for good. He was found dead 2 days later in the street.
Your daughter is in a very serious predicament. Her very soul is in the claws of evil. Im praying that you make the best decision possible and that she finally sees the light and makes necessary changes to her life.

This is indeed the bottom line. While evicting her from your house may be the only thing left to do, both you and her mother must understand that the fact that she may end up dead is a real possibility.
Never cease praying. This is way beyond what any one person can bear, and God promises to carry our burdens if we give them to Him.
Do you understand that this has already been tried, and it was a horrible disaster?
Your mileage may very, but from my perspective, one experiment beats to death all theories. We've had that experiment, and your side lost.
