Sarah Palin Should Not Run For President
Leo McNeil ^ | January 30, 2015 | Leo McNeil

Posted on 01/30/2015 4:54:59 AM PST by LeoMcNeil

Sarah Palin made headlines last weekend when she said she was interested in running for President. Palin has been an important part of the Tea Party and conservative movements in this country since she came onto the scene in 2008. Nobody on the right throws red meat to a crowd quite like Palin. Her ability to sarcastically tear down liberal sacred cows is second only to Rush Limbaugh. Best of all she drives liberals up a wall. They hate her more than any other conservative in this country, including George W. Bush and Limbaugh. Watching liberals fall to pieces over Palin is always amusing. Palin has also been an important player in the Tea Party political scene. The candidates she campaigned for, particularly in 2014, generally won. She has an excellent track record in that regard.

The question is whether Palin should run for President and perhaps as importantly whether conservatives should support her candidacy. The answer is clear, she should not run and if she does conservatives should not support her. There are any number of reasons why Palin shouldn’t be the Republican nominee beginning with the fact that her experience is limited and at this point remote. Palin was Governor of Alaska for all of two and a half years. She resigned ostensibly to make money in personal appearances. If Palin was serious about running for President, she should have stayed in office and run for re-election. In the alternative, she should have run for a winnable Alaska Senate seat in 2014. Instead, Palin has shown a lack of interest in actual governing. We need to nominate someone with experience and if we look at the slate of candidates out there we can clearly see there are other conservatives who have a lot more experience than Palin. Surely the GOP can find someone with more experience than Obama had in 2008, we can’t set the bar down to his level.

Palin’s ability to attract people other than conservatives is near zero. Fair or not, Palin is a polarizing figure in American politics. On one hand she’s brought it on herself by tearing down liberal sacred cows. On the other hand, the left-wing media has relentlessly attacked her for no other reason than she’s a heretic to the feminist cause. Let’s be honest, Palin has egged the left-wing media on and it’s been amusing to watch her set them up and tear them down. Doing that makes for great giggles for Tea Partiers but it does nothing for Palin’s likability. Because of the media, people actually think Palin said she can see Russia from her house. The media has pushed that narrative, knowing full well that Tina Fey said that on a Saturday Night Live sketch. People other than conservatives think Palin is a crass moron. That is a hurdle she won’t be able to overcome if she runs for President.

Sarah Palin has a place in conservative movement of the Republican Party. She’s an important part of the Tea Party. There’s a difference between being the flame thrower for conservatives and running for President. Palin is great at what she’s doing right now. She’s made a good living for herself and her family by giving speeches and making media appearances. She’s done a terrific job campaigning for conservatives in House and Senate elections. She’s found her calling in politics, it makes no sense for her to give it up to run for President. Conservatives shouldn’t want her to give it up either. Her record was magnificent in 2014. We’re much better off having her back conservative candidates for Congress than we are watching her flame out in a GOP Presidential primary that’s likely to be crowded with too many conservative candidates. If she wants to get involved in the primary, she should act as kingmaker and endorse someone. For her to run though will result in her ultimate defeat, which will likely limit her opportunities to influence politics in the future.

We conservatives need to find someone who has more than the right views. We need to find someone who has experience and can translate that experience to the White House. That person isn’t Sarah Palin. Two and a half years as Governor of a small state isn’t good enough. Eight years as Mayor of a town of less than 8,000 is not good enough experience. Palin is great at what she’s doing now, conservatives should be happy that she’s found something she’s both successful and influential at. The Democrats set the bar low for experience when they nominated Obama. The Republicans need to raise that bar. Scott Walker is just as conservative as Palin and he has a lot more experience. He’s balanced budgets and taken on unions in a blue state no less. Ted Cruz has more experience than Palin between his time as solicitor general in Texas and the US Senate. We need someone who is more skilled than Obama is. We have candidates like that on the right in the GOP. Sarah Palin just isn’t one of them.

Keep adoring the one who sits on the sidelines and cuts lucrative deals for herself, while people like Cruz are actually in the trenches trying to really change the way our government works.

Trump keeps threatening to run, too. Fan of his also?

I like that you’re an expert on her, though. Do you have a scrapbook?

The truth is that many candidates for POTUS do not expect to win. Instead they are running for cabinet offices, by later offering their delegates up to the candidate most likely to win.

In these terms, assuming this is their motivation, what cabinet office do you think would be best for Sarah Palin?

It’s good to imagine this for all the other candidates, who even if you would hold your nose at them being POTUS, you might find them tolerable in the cabinet.

Quitting a job where you can effect change is somehow read as a positive here.

If she ran i would back her, but anyone with half a brain realizes she has no interest in running.

Tellin someone they are not a real conservative because they vastly prefer Cruz to Palin is funny stuff.

She resigned ostensibly to make money in personal appearances.

That is not what I recall.

Sarah quitting the governor’s job in 2009 is of no consequence to me.

However, the fact that she left politics all together some 6 years ago is.

She had chances to re-enter the fray as a senator. From two different state.

The fact she chose to become a TV talking head (which is fine) instead of a politician is why I - as well as everyone - can’t take her seriously when she repeats her game of “Maybe so/Maybe no”.

Sure, I like Sarah. She is perfect in what she’s doing. But she has as much a chance at running as does the Donald.

My hunch is that team grinds to a halt today at 11 AM EST.

I do hope that your hunch is right. However, "sources" tell the DailyBeast he's running.

Oh and p.s., whether he runs or not, Dio will never cease to post about him.

Yes, admittedly Sarah is a bit light on the Foreign Policy side. Rice would cover that nicely.

I would suggest that even Senator Cruz completely disagrees with your opinion ...

She can never be Cruz. One has to be intelligent to be Cruz. Ted Cruz could enter a room occupied by Madison, Hamilton, Clay and Webster and fit right in. Palin not so much.

John Kasich left the House of Representatives and for many years was a talking head on Fox before deciding to get back into politics and run for governor of Ohio. Was he disqualified for quitting Congress to be on TV before deciding to reenter politics?

Or is that a charge only applicable to Palin?

How about Sarah Palin as VP on a Cruz/Palin ticket?

I've liked the idea of a Cruz/Palin ticket for some time now. Would even go for a Walker/Palin ticket.

That said, I'm not entirely sure she wants political office again. She's doing her part right now making liberal's heads explode every time she opens her mouth. She's got a good gig. I'd keep on doing what she's demonstrated she can do quite well if I were her. Of course I'm not, so we'll see how she jumps. Given that she doesn't seem to have a team on the ground at the moment, I kinda doubt she'll be running except perhaps as a VP.

Great. Let Palin - like Kasich - run for Governor. Then some years later - after being in politics - she runs for president? Great.

But wouldn’t it have been absurd if Kasich had decided to up and run for president instead of governor?

The fact that Palin has more name recognition makes no difference. Trump also has a powerful presence but he is certainly not a serious player either.

Mitt’s wife should have run, instead.

She is tough, did very well on TV,
and probably a LOT more conservative than Willard.

Why ask me. I’ve already stated that Palin quitting the top job in Alaska is and was of no consequence to me. I do not hold that against her. No do I care that Kasich quit mid-term.

No more absurd these days than a first lady running for the Senate, or a 2-year Senator running for president.

Was it absurd for Herman Cain or Rick Santorum to run?

Even Romney finished his term? Like we really did need gay marriage and the “conservative” answer to healthcare, Obamacare’s precursor.

Hey! I got a novel idea for you. Let’s nominate someone who is reliably conservative. Who doesn’t suck up K street and the NWO. Who is a real (not plastic phony) person. Someone who has a love for this country and its citizens. Sarah fills that bill.

But then, Romney the RINO types never did care about those things really. They just play them during elections.

Walker has been on Team Bush since Team Romney had their train wreck in 2012.

Until this post of yours, all I've been reading is how Walker is such a fine conservative because of his fighting the unions etc. I've asked a few questions about who he really is and have received only glowing reports. I'm undecided regarding Walker.

I like Palin/Ernst, with Cruz as Senate Majority Leader.

Also noticed the jab at Jeb on Romney's way out this morning. Wonder if it means much.

Why are you and the rest of these people so frightened of Palin. If she is what all of you say, you have nothing to worry about do you. Yet, all she has to do is hint a wanting to run and the flood gates of hate fly open. These people come out of the woodwork to make bashing her the most important thing they can do in life.

No other candidate or even possible candidate gets this kind of response. Why? Unlike anyone else, she is out of their control. She is the one who could throw all their Oligarch/NWO plans out the window. They can’t tell her what to do. They can’t be certain their bash attack will work. She’s not in their pocket. They run scared.

I like that.

Cruz will be President long before he is ever Senate Majority Leader. SML is not at all in Cruz’ DNA.

Ernst is not ready for prime time - not even close.

Yes, Romney’s pissed Jeb took his donors and his staffers.
