MIT Climate Scientist: Global Warming Believers a ‘Cult’
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | January 21, 2015 | Howie Carr

An MIT professor of meteorology is dismissing global-warming alarmists as a discredited “cult” whose members are becoming more hysterical as emerging evidence continues to contradict their beliefs.

During an appearance on this writer’s radio show Monday, MIT Professor emeritus Richard Lindzen discussed the religious nature of the movement.

“As with any cult, once the mythology of the cult begins falling apart, instead of saying, oh, we were wrong, they get more and more fanatical. I think that’s what’s happening here. Think about it,” he said. “You’ve led an unpleasant life, you haven’t led a very virtuous life, but now you’re told, you get absolution if you watch your carbon footprint. It’s salvation!”

Lindzen, 74, has issued calm dismissals of warmist apocalypse, reducing his critics to sputtering rage.

Last week, government agencies including NASA announced that 2014 was the “hottest year” in “recorded history,” as The New York Times put it in an early edition. Last year has since been demoted by the Times to the hottest “since record-keeping began in 1880.”(continued)

I’ve done a fair amount of reading over cults, and recently....I sat down to blog an interesting aspect of cults. You basically need ten conditions to fall into place...there might be more....but those ten were always necessary for cult status. Without those ten, it’s not a cult.

From the ten, there’s only one single condition that Climate Believers lack, a mystic background/mystic rituals/mystic chants. The other nine all fall into place to one degree or another.

In the climate change community, that function is served by computer models. If the models predict it, it must be true. If observations don't agree, they are bogus and must be thrown out. Faith in the efficacy of computer modeling is a hallmark of climate scientists.

And yet some GWers want us deniers to be thrown into the camps for our disbelief.
It is a cult and I’m glad several credible people have come out recently calling them just that.

I agree, money and the power to tell someone how to live their lives. With their happy, paid-for pseudo-weather scientist lifestyle in jeopardy, they go nuts like Hitler in the bunker back in late April, 1945.

Heh, whiteboy chimp-out!

The Gov. World Leaders are the cult’s leaders....Going ‘Greenies’ and such are the faithful followers. The media is it’s marketing branch. The IMF and World Bank it’s money laundering Institutes.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

“Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?”

It ain’t the sun they are trying to control...it’s us they want to control. It plays right into their hands that they can’t control GW. They want to manage it and thus own the world.

Real story: Jim Jones actually was a communist who set up his own commune elsewhere.

I've lived or worked in NYC for over 20 yrs. One constant I've noticed is that Libs (over-educated lefties, not old-school Democrats) suffer tremendous anxiety over what they eat, what they wear, where they shop, what books, magazines, and newspapers they read, what movies they see, tv shows they watch, and what associations they keep. It's endless. It all seems to point toward "being a good person," which in their mind is a perfect Liberal.

Adhering to the Climate Change Cult is the fullness of this anxiety. It's a kind of "cheap grace" that makes up for all the times they were "bad," I mean, all the times they ate a hamburger.

Ice core and tree ring studies (and geology and historical facts such as ice age periodicity and late first millennium wine production in Britain) extend the time frame for study back by tens and even hundreds of thousands of years. Unfortunately for the Cultists all of that perspective blows away their little theories about mankind’s ability to affect the global climate. Then again, they’re equally blind to actual historic temperature records and the evidence of their own senses. They’re capable of becoming stuck in Arctic summertime sea ice and simultaneously insisting that what’s gripping their ship somehow cannot exist. In other words, they’re nuts.

As an MIT graduate, I feel compelled to point out that the school lives and dies by government contracts and research grants. Some of the professors are simply prostitutes, parroting the official line. If their climate research money dried up, their conclusions might be more scientifically-based.

Wasn’t this the plot of many comic books in the 60’s?

Last week, government agencies including NASA announced that 2014 was the “hottest year” in “recorded history,”

2014 had one of the longest and coldest winters on record in my neck of the woods, and not even one day over 90 during the summer months while there are typically a half dozen or more really hot days.

I don't know where NASA sticks their thermometer to make these pronouncements, but it sure wasn't anywhere close to here.

I have an idea, and it's always 98.6 degrees there. Yup, yup. Must be Glo-Bull warming.

LOL!
EXACTLY what I was thinking as I typed the response. I was even going to add a line like: ‘Just like in the old movies’.
