Moscow Times:
Russian holiday shows typically revolve around fairy tale plots and fantasy characters, but this year some children have been treated to new themes: sanctions, Russia's nuclear arsenal and the "stupidity" of the United States.
...a heavily politicized performance featuring the characters of U.S. President Barack Obama -dressed as Santa Claus- and State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki as an elf, according to video footage of the show posted online late last month.
The American characters repeatedly testified to their nation's "stupidity," while the Russian ones boasted of their country's nuclear arsenal.
"They are right to say in Russia: All Americans are dumb," the Obama character tells the audience.
"It's not my fault that I'm so stupid," the Psaki character seconds.
After the elf proclaims that the U.S. has "established our own world order" and threatens sanctions, her Russian opponents in the show dressed, traditionally, as fairy tale characters respond with some vigorous flexing of military muscle.
"We now have new warriors defending Russia, and their names are Topol M, Iskander and Bulava," a Russian character says, ticking off the names of Russia's ballistic missiles and systems...

Russia has had its Beslan. We had 9/11. They produce oil, as do we, but the people who are pushing the price down are trying to hurt both nations. Hmmmm.
Did the Russians have Prof. Gruber as their consultant on the movie?
“They produce oil, as do we, but the people who are pushing the price down are trying to hurt both nations.”
No. If Russia’s totalitarian dictatorship had a clue about economics, they would long ago have structured the nation’s activities to take advantage of low energy prices in the world market and make Russia a resource rich manufacturer of non-lethal goods and services for Russia and the rest of the world. Instead, Russia uses its resources, its people, and its California sized economy to behave like an ill tempered and mouse-sized thug to threaten its neighbors with conquest, plunder, and genocide.
No argument, really. I was musing what things could be like if their government was more rational.
Yeah....never see anything with a tag “Made in Russia”
Reagan did a deal with the Saudis to open up the spigots and drive down the price... that is what destroyed the Soviet Union. And while it will hurt US oil exploration and kill the oil boom, our economy -unlike Russia’s- widely benefits form lower oil prices. Overall, low oil price still a plus... we’ve capped wells before, and oil shale will be there when we need it.
The Saudis can be death with... re oil business, anyway. But Obama has aided their enemy Iran in a number of ways, and they now see us as more of an adversary
imho
You don’t have to spend more than about five minutes watching our pop culture to admit they aren’t wrong about the Stupid Americans bit.
If we had been looking long term, we could have seen the value of becoming the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the world and developed all of our Alaskan and offshore fields and kept the price of oil low so that the tinpot dictators in South America and Russia could never have gained a foothold. If POTUS would even now, open ANWR and the other prime government (read the PEOPLE'S) resources, we could still probably avert a catastrophe. But I forget (silly me) that catastrophe is the very object of the RAT agenda. Destroy the middle class, drive the poor deeper into debt and allow the filthy rich who really want the control of currency to rise into a true oligarchy of power.
When Reagan did what he did, we were still making a lot of things in the US we aren't making in the US any more, from ERTL toys to Gerber knives and so much more. LL Bean's catalog had more American made items in it than imported ones.
What is the benefit of cheap energy when we have an anti-industry administration with a pit bull EPA?
I don't think there will be as much benefit as you seem to think, because we have a record number of people out of work, and more going there. We'll see, but I think this is the last sector in our economy that was creating jobs without government subsidy, and the ripple will be felt far and wide, just as the 'boom' was.
As far as capping wells, that might work for strippers, but these are a different ball game. They won't be capped, because those drilled on borrowed money will be producing at their best--which means the greatest recovery and chance of payout. The slower producers in the current boom are likely paid for by now, have declined their 80% or so daily production rate, and are making a profit. It would be foolish to shut them in.
Besides, it isn't like turning a valve on or off, wells which are shut in often suffer formation damage and do not produce as well when (if) re-started without extensive (expensive) workover. Idle equipment deteriorates and is ridiculously expensive to rehabilitate or replace. Corrosion takes no holidays.
The other part you leave out is that even with the current boom, most of those who are in supervisory positions aren't going to be back in 20 years, even if they are still alive. There is a lot more to drilling a well than the yahoo crap I have seen on "reality" TV (Just about every one of those people would be escorted off the locations I have worked on). If the prices stay low long, there won't be many with the expertise left to drill the next time they go up.
Ha...well there you go
