President Obama in an interview broadcast Sunday didnt rule out visiting Ferguson, Mo. after a grand jury reveals whether they decide to indict the police officer involved in the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.
On ABCs This Week, Obama was asked if it would make sense for him to pay the city a visit after the decision is released.
You know, Im going to wait and see how the response comes about, Obama said. But what does makes sense is for not just me, but my entire administration, to work with willing partners at the state and local level to see how we can address some of these systematic issues.
The grand jury is set to reconvene on Monday at the earliest, reports said Saturday. Their decision was expected to be released over the weekend, but they had not reached one when they last met on Friday.
Obama had previously sent Attorney General Eric Holder to visit Ferguson as protests over Browns death embroiled the city and attracted the national spotlight in August.
In the lead-up to the grand jurys decision, Obama said hes been in touch with state officials to ensure the same type of violence that ravaged the city in August would not happen again.
What Ive done is called Jay Nixon, the governor of Missouri, to make sure that he has a plan to respond in a careful and appropriate way to any potential violence. To be able to sort out the vast majority of peaceful protesters from the handful who are not, Obama said.
Host George Stephanopoulos asked Obama whether he agrees with civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) that if the grand jury doesnt issue an indictment, it would be a miscarriage of justice and a turning point similar to the way Selma, Ala. was in the 1960s civil rights movement.
Obama declined to comment on Lewiss statement, but suggested the issues in Ferguson can be fixed.
The kinds of ongoing problems we have with police and communities of color around the country are not of the sort that we saw in Selma, Obama said. Were not talking about systematic segregation or discrimination. They are solvable problems if in fact law enforcement officials are open to the kind of training and best practices that weve seen instituted in lot of parts of the country.
He should go to Wichita where a woman was raped and set on fire.
Yeah, I’m sure he’ll be handing out hot chocolate to the police..
If Wilson is No Billed, maybe the “community” could work on less criminal activity toward store employees and the police.
He stirs it up for months, then does these interviews where he can pretend to be somewhat fair. It is appalling.
Marching alongside the New Black Panthers, of course.
"....yeah, I changed my mind what to post too"
Where have we seen this level of deception before..?? Hmmmm?
Obama is getting worried his immigration scam is not making the sky fall ,so he’ll try Ferguson ,but he will fall back on the good old trying to make the GOP shut down the government ,LOL
He won’t go. “The Secret Service won’t allow the president to go into harm’s way,” will be the reason.
obama going to Ferguson? Great, so how ‘bout it Mr. gun control (bammy) - go without armed security.
We Be Adjitatin’
Whatever obama would say, everyone knows the opposite is the truth, so he will tell them to remain calm and protest peacefully, they will get the message.
He's found a better place to loot.
“He stirs it up for months, then does these interviews where he can pretend to be somewhat fair. It is appalling.”
He is a master of manipulation, lying, and trickery.
“Host George Stephanopoulos asked Obama whether he agrees with civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) that if the grand jury doesnt issue an indictment, it would be a miscarriage of justice and a turning point similar to the way Selma, Ala. was in the 1960s civil rights movement.
Obama declined to comment on Lewiss statement.....”
Low intellect individuals, and Obama’s True Believers, can turn to this and say “Gee, he didn’t really say anything bad... He’s not a bad guy... Blah, Blah, Blah...”
Does he need a new flatscreen, or is he just going to do his 'Christmas shopping' with his 'sons'.
“...to see how we can address some of these systematic issues.
Smartest man ever yet again shows his deep ignorance of basic English. He was searching for “systemic,” not “systematic.” Right up their with corpse-man.
Of course, maybe he does think this is systematic:
Step 1. Gentle loving black kid raises hands to surrender.
Step 2. Violent, raging white cop shots him dead for no reason other than he’s black.
Oh Goodie, the President is going there to tell them to get a job, work hard, stay married, raise your kids to respect the law, stay away from drugs, keep out of jail by obeying the law, respect the property of others, love your neighbor...
No?
