Georgia Man Shoots and Kills Driver Who Mistakenly Pulled Into His Driveway . . . Allowed To Plead To A Single Misdemeanor With No Jail Time and A $500 Fine
There is a surprising plea deal in Georgia this week where Philip Sailors, 69, was accused of responding to Rodrigo Diaz pulling into his driveway by mistake by shooting him in the head and killing him. Sailors has now been allowed to plead out on a single misdemeanor for involuntary manslaughter with no jail time. He was facing a murder charge. Under the plea bargain, Sailors will serve 12-months probation and pay a $500 fine. What is equally striking is that Sailors declined to say a word of apology to the family of Diaz when he appeared in court to accept the plea bargain of lifetime.
Diaz appears to have pulled into the wrong driveway while following a mistaken GPS in January 2013. He was trying to find the driveway of his friend across the street to go roller-skating. When Sailors saw a strange car, he came out shooting: firing once in the air and once through the windshield of the car. The second round struck Diaz in the head.

Unless there is more to this story, the killer got off way too easy.
While I find the story to be awful, I have to wonder what really took place. Having worked in journalism for a short while, I know that stories are just that - “stories”. I can’t imagine this result, based on the reporting, here. There must be A LOT more to the situation. Thank you.
Maybe once or twice a year, I will have occasion to partially turn into someone’s driveway in order to reverse my direction. I hate to think that I’m taking my life in my hands when I do that.
Good point. Regardless there is an agenda, or there would not be omissions of interest from the article.
That last part, the part about providing additional evidence, is to keep the slugs at bay.
I’ll go ya one better: the presiding Judge didn’t have to accept the plea deal. That man just enjoyed killing a human. It will happen again.,
Could be a good-ole-boy deal.
Trespassing into somebody’s property is met with a deadly response. I seldom see problem with that.
In the daytime, not even Texas is that way for driveways and yards.
I am surprised that everyone has missed the references to the family strongly insisting that the boy not be depicted as a bad boy.
What family would be that concerned?
Is this some quirk in their native country?
Or is this the parents of a bad kid?
Or, illegales who didn’t get the Obama memo?
Whatever.
He must be politically connected.
Gee, what a smart ass reply. I have to assume that’s all you’ve got.
I think the homeowner was justified.
Oh, Mr. Meanness-is-my-Lord-and-Savior?
I guess I do have to clarify mine for you. 'Why bother' means I don't have anything for you. Nothing, nada, zip! Your post was not worth replying to. It had nothing of interest to sentient beings.
Yeah ...... the entire story is BS. More to it IMO.
