They have a right to access the country at will, wander through private property, ignore any law that is inconvenient to them,, so why should a laptop be any different?

This leaves me speechless. I worked as a hotel maid and cleaned homes while in college. It never, ever occurred to me to snoop through anything, ever. A gal I cleaned with and I once laughed derisively over snap shots a couple had on display in their bedroom. They evoked an “Ewww...” response but that is about as snoopy as I ever got.

I will say that hotel housekeeping is about the least favorite job I have ever had. The wages are low, the pressure to perform high, and I think I maybe got one tip. Waitressing was much better. It was more fun, the tips were plentiful-I even got some that were higher than the total bill ;-). Gotta love the after bar crowd at an all night restaurant!

A Monk episode used a group of maids as villains who went through visitors loose papers and unsecured luggage. Good episode.

I agree with the writer, who thinks people are being too hard on the maid (although I think her race and her alien status are irrelevant here).

Cleaning rooms is tough work. In a perfect world, hotel maids would be scrupulous about not inspecting guests’ possessions, but people aren’t perfect.

I don’t think the maid’s snooping is that big a deal.

We could argue the ethics all day long. Riffle through my stuff and I’ll break your fingers. Does that simplify matters?

Housekeeping staffs are almost wholly made up of women—many of whom are minorities, including both legal and undocumented immigrants. Their rates of injury are high and they make very little money—just under $20,000 annually, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and basically nobody tips them.

So by this morons standard, any time you go to a fast food establishment it's okay for the employees to search through your car, hell I guess you should leave it unlocked with the keys in the ignition so that you don't impair them. Does he let juanito the gardner, or his housecleaning service rummage through his home? Liberals, dumber than a possum, and yet they don't litter the roads, go figure.

What the a$$hole is really saying:
Government-certified victim group members should be allowed to do anything they want to government-certified “oppressor” group members, including stealing.

Moving games to clean, maybe looking at it for a moment, is acceptable.
There is no *&?@ reason for a maid to open an electronic device and try to log in except to:
A. steal your credit card info
B. try to order something logged in as you
C. get information to use against you
D. waste time on employer’s dime

I’d like, as a conservative, for him to grant me access to look through his stuff, as well. Both in his hotel room, and at home. No problem, right?

Put myself through 7 years of college on the night shift picking up trash and sweeping floors- never ONCE did it occur to me to look through anyone’s drawers or take stuff.

I think this author is projecting
