In an article written this week called, "Who Cares if a Hotel Housekeeper Snoops Through Your Room?" Gawker asks just that: what do you care if some hotel maid looks through your stuff?
...The author of the article, Jordan Sargent, asks: "who cares?"
Sargent runs down what the woman is seen doing in the video:
But let's be clear about exactly what this womanwho is described as an employee of an American "brand-name hotel"actually does: she picks up a package and looks at it, sees what PS3 games the man has brought with him (this video is about ethics in hotel cleaning), looks at the PS3, looks at his laptop, picks up and allegedly attempts to turn on his tablet, tries to "access" his Chromebook and opens the top of his luggage.
Sargent then continues:
Again, this goes against many of the norms that our very society is built onbut this is not a question of ethics, it's a question of empathy. If you were a housekeeper at a hotel, would you not find yourself tempted by the prospect of checking out someone else's stuff? If, after weeks or months or years on the job, would you not one day give in and pick up someone's iPad orgasp!rifle through their PS3 games? If you say that you wouldn't, you are probably a liar.
...And you don't understand even more, he writes: she's likely an illegal alien, so it really makes it okay:
Housekeeping staffs are almost wholly made up of womenmany of whom are minorities, including both legal and undocumented immigrants. Their rates of injury are high and they make very little moneyjust under $20,000 annually, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and basically nobody tips them.

No, she does not, and while I am at it - eek! she threw the pillows on the floor, then picked ‘em up and put them on the freshly straightened bed : o
Double eek!
What the a$$hole is really saying:
Government-certified victim group members should be allowed to do anything they want to government-certified “oppressor” group members, including stealing.
I saw that episode of Monk! The maids were stealing financial information from hotel guests who were businessmen and making investments based on insider information.
Personally, I would never leave a laptop or Ipad unattended anywhere, including in a hotel room. No way.
I do don’t leave laptops out and unattended, goes double for a smart phone. I had an older flip type cell stolen years ago while at a good hotel in Atlanta from my room. Nothing else. I called my provider and they showed no calls since the night before and they shut it off. I left the room and forgot it.
Moving games to clean, maybe looking at it for a moment, is acceptable.
There is no *&?@ reason for a maid to open an electronic device and try to log in except to:
A. steal your credit card info
B. try to order something logged in as you
C. get information to use against you
D. waste time on employer’s dime
Monk is one of my favorite shows of recent years. Some days I can relate to Adrian only too well.
I’d like, as a conservative, for him to grant me access to look through his stuff, as well. Both in his hotel room, and at home. No problem, right?
She was just looking for her documentation!
> I’m sure you’re correct, but it seems this particular maid was just snooping.
Do you think Obama’s MSM would allow them to show an illegal immigrant stealing when he’s pushing amnesty?
There is a weird and disturbing psychology with many (probably most or all) of them. First is the tolerance for and acceptance of degenerate and outright lawless behavior because they want license to do the same things (the old "judge not lest ye be judged" card).
Next is the need for victimhood. The more they are victimized the more sympathy they can drum up for their simpleton child-by-choice ways. The truth of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is lost on them because it requires responsible, adult thinking.
Furthermore, a blind faith in probabilities helps the insecure keep their false sense of security and superiority. Preventable mishaps, chaos, and destruction are blamed on random chance and unintended consequences. The Mr. Magoo method of navigating through life means no accountability or need to learn from missteps. After all, they are "blind".
However, when they characteristically assume misfortune is the fault of their enemies (e.g. people against Obamacare who want to "take away" healthcare), then there is no tolerance or mercy for such "criminals". Third worlders can fill up the hospitals, destroy and bankrupt the entire system across the fruited plain, and ghetto, gang, and druggie thugs can make travel by daylight a sketchy proposition, yet they'll turn a blind eye to real criminals, preferring to blame those who are voicing the truth. Reality is their enemy.
After all, Obama their king has no problem with the criminal gun culture in the democrat run cities, only the lawful "gun culture" that is rightly suspicious of beast.gov thug government.
Snoopy, covetous maids are in squarely in the same odious character camp. Same folks who nose through other people's medicine cabinets, computers, file drawers, and bedroom chests. Then they go vote for a government that does the same.
you bad!
Put myself through 7 years of college on the night shift picking up trash and sweeping floors- never ONCE did it occur to me to look through anyone’s drawers or take stuff.
I think this author is projecting
“keep yo dayum hands off my property”
There you go with the premise of owning private property. That kind of uppity attitude makes people want privacy too.
After all, if you’ve done nothing wrong you have no need for curtains (or computers or jewelry or...)
the Naked Emperor would have it that way....
“She was just looking for her documentation!”
No, my green cart, eet ees not een here...
bttt
Spot on, each point.
It is indeed a weird and disturbing psychology - both the snooping AND that someone in a **position of trust**, which a hotel maid is [their low wages notwithstanding...why do babysitters also get such low wages while the valets get big tips (shows what we value, no?), but I digress] is EXCUSED by a writer/member of lamestream media who condones this behavior (projection, as you say).
They are both part of the undermining of our culture. No trust, no honor remaining, if they have their way. Decent people choose (CHOOSE!) to do the right thing in part because they refuse to be part of the evil and chaos.
What? All this from a “snooping” question? Yep.
Btw, I generally refuse room service, lock things up as much as possible, tip, & thank - it is a hard job.
Thanks for the ping. Take care.
