Women should never go to jail, no matter what the crime, be it murder, assault, illicit drug dealing, or anything else. That is the idea of Patricia OBrien, an associate professor at the Jane Addams College of Social Work at University of Illinois at Chicago.
In an article in the Washington Post entitled, We should stop putting women in jail. For anything, OBrien made the case that women should never, under any circumstances, go to prison.
OBrien asked questions such as, What purpose is served by subjecting the most disempowered, abused and nonviolent women to the perpetually negative environment of prisons?
Sending females to prison, OBrien argued, doesnt help anything. People and children rely on women, she wrote, much more than men. On top of that, Efforts to make prison work for women have only perpetuated the growth of the prison industrial complex.
What should be done with women who commit crimes? In Britain, OBrien explains, advocates propose community sentences for nonviolent offenders and housing violent offenders in small custodial centers near their families.
And there is evidence that these approaches can work in the United States.

There has got to be a brain scan, that will determine what universe these creatures come from.
I’m thinking you’re right. IT really does take an active effort to be this dumb.
Moonbats hate cigarettes but love pot. Scream about wars on women yet never say a peep about Islamic oppression. Love death row murderers but loathe 9 month old unborn children.
It’s not a logical, loving philosophy...it’s psychotic and suicidal.
This is simply false.
” Just because their organs aren’t on the
outside? (Thanks Samantha Carter.)”
Did you notice at the end of season 8, they made fun of that comment?
Personally, this woman’s brains have been on the outside long enough.
Yeah. My son gave the entire series on DVD to his mother and it’s still her favorite TV show. I see it way too often.
(caution Ranker site is riddled with ads etc.)
Tim Allen, comedian, had this to say about Martha Stewart:
“Boy, I feel safer now that she’s behind bars. O.J. and Kobe are walking around; Osama BinLaden too, but they take the one woman in America willing to cook and clean and work in the yard and haul her ass to jail.”
So...if a female murders his family and steals their belongings, this degenerate “professor” is saying that they shouldn’t go to prison? Just askin’.
The Gentle Giant's felonious mom would likely benefit form a real time-out too.
True justice consists of making a moral judgment about a person's actions, then giving that person what he or she deserves in accordance with that judgment. If a woman acts in a way that deserves prison as a punishment, then she should go to prison.
I’d also point out that Karma caught up with 2 of 3 in Allen’s short list.
Says someone from an upper west side apartment loft that has never been mugged.
All these people that want racial harmony and want a nation of diversity need to live among the miscreants for a while. Life is not a leisurely stroll to the starbucks for afternoon brunch. People outside of their hipster bubble will kill them for a dime.
unempowered.
Women in 2014 are the only human beings in history that have a constitutional right to kill another human being.
They have an automatic right to the custody of their children (the previous fact notwithstanding)
In many states, they are automatically entitled to economically enslave another human being.
They have the ability to impact shareholders, bondholders, customers and suppliers of commercial businesses simply by ALLEDGING sexual harassment.
And finally, they can stay at home without any responsibility at all in a time of crisis requiring the forced induction of men of military age through selective service.
However, what this . . . professor is suggesting is completely consistent and the logical next ask of a group of people for whom we have already largely relieved them of all responsibility for all actions in all walks and fields anyway. We are putting women in combat roles, but there isn’t any expectations placed on their performance in those positions.
Anyone with even a glancing acquaintance with any military branch have either heard or witnessed with their own eyes, the myriad incidents.
Bottom line: Why not? Ask any school teacher whether there is any active parenting going on and they’ll tell you that it is the expectation of public schools that they do the actual parenting. Full stop. These are women commenting on other women. In some cases, it is teachers commenting on the children of OTHER TEACHERS.
Women have improved one aspect of life. Now you can go on a 9 month West Pac on an aircraft carrier and get yourself a prostitute. For a single guy 19 years old with no place else to spend their cash and with all their quals complete, a prostitute can make the time go by.
Prostitution, by the way, is the highest and best manifestation of feminism. It is the epitome of a woman deciding what to do with their bodies, the manifestation of an entrepreneurial spirit, and at the same time, however fleeting that time may be, there is some sort of expectation for which there is an ongoing incentive that makes it worth their while to meet. Prostitution is freedom. Prostitution is independence.
No need to find a husband. No guilt in getting your meals or the roof over your head from a man. No pretense toward meeting anybody else’s standards, least of which would be societies expectations.
This makes sense. Since we can’t hold them accountable, of course, it also means that the rest of us retain the right to do what we have to in order to protect ourselves. Animals aren’t held to any legal consequences either. When they kill a man, we put them down.
I’m good with that.
We are all the same, but don't you dare ever stereotype.
I have seen females posting on democratic underground that say ‘whats so bad about Sharia Law, yada yada’.
This coming from a female that knows how to read and write typing her opinion on social media.
Alot of women make their living... a very lavish and expensive living... simply by keeping in good shape, taking care of their appearance, and opening their legs to a select breed of wealthy men.
Colonial Americans to some extent agreed, but they were less sexist. They felt that no one should be in jail longer than necessary for a trial. Those acquitted would be released after trial. Those convicted would be punished quickly (whether a day in the stocks, a good lashing, or a drop on the end of a rope). Keep someone behind bars for years, like an animal? That would be both an expensive waste and a cruel (and thus immoral) punishment.
