NY Police Department Asking for Facebook Password, Profile when Registering Pistol

A member of New York Firearms posted both a statement and a picture that claims the city of Watervliet, New York is asking for their Facebook profile and password when registering their pistol.

The post, made Wednesday evening, recounting this story:

I had the form filled out with all my references, notarized, photos taken, driving record, and safety course. I went in and the officer took my folder in the back and came out and told me I have a lot more work to do and hands me a new packet including the main form except this one is on a thicker paper. This packet includes the forms to give my references which I was expecting. On the front page of this packet in the last space it says Facebook and password
It took several hours, but the original poster then posted this picture below:

Gun Registration

...They contacted Chief Ron Boisvert, who stated that the form should not have been included in the packet… but that it was for internal use only.

When asked what he meant by "internal use," Mr. Boisvert said that police station does not require people to write down their password in the application, but they do require people to log into their profile and allow people to read through it.

“We ask the applicant to log on to Facebook in front of us," he told Robert Farago. “Pages they’ve looked at, friends – anything that reflects on the character of the applicant.”

The “thinking” nowadays is if you don’t have a Facebook account you are a psychopath and a potential mass murderer. Definitely antisocial. Some companies now will not hire a person without a Facebook page.

I do not have a Facebook page since there is a lot about me that is “need to know “.

I assure you, the people who care to know do know exactly the same amount of information about any of us.

How about “none of your business” as a answer....

Or perhaps the name of a Vietnamese friend: Phuc Hue.

If they have your password, they can impersonate you and put incriminating things in your profile.

Not only illegal, but also illegal on another level - anyone doubt that there is a key-logger on the computer they provide for folks to login to their facebook accounts? Once the person leaves, they retrieve the password and write it i themselves.
