I have maintained that a Constitutional Convention, a ConCon, will not achieve what its proponents want. There is nothing wrong with the Constitution; only people themselves, the citizens, are imperfect.

I do not always agree with Denninger, but I suspect in this case he's straight-on correct.

If you want to respond, please do, but any name calling or vulgarity will be reported to the Moderators.

If you have another con con it is most likely that the libs will game it and we will all be worse off. And if we were to succeed that would just give the libs more ammunition and determination to just ignore it. The country clubber who run the GOP would just be as feckless duplicitous and treacherous as ever.

False. Only the States can set the agenda for a ConCon.

It is a HORRIBLE idea. We are NOT in a majority. No one really is. But this will destroy the Constitution and you think it even has a chance of coming back more conservative? NOT a chance.

So doing nothing is the answer?

Yes.

That is what I fear most.

Most of all, I do not understand the purpose of creating new amendments as those will be ignored by Congress, the White House, and the USSC. Such is tyranny.

No. It takes a Governor with courage to stand-up to an out of control Federal system.

Excellent post. You're exactly right. And if we can't get elected representatives that must stand for election every 4 years to do what is right, how do we expect representatives to a ConCon to do what is right.

"the only solution is to unwind the previous violence done to the Constitution and then, if appropriate, pass Amendments that further constrain the rights protected by and powers delegated therein."

Close, but you got that backwards. The only way we could hope to unwind the previous violence done to the constitution is to first legitimize the things that would be most objectionable.

So amendments limiting private ownership of nukes, and amendments giving the Fed's authority for Social Security and Medicare, would need to come first. In fact you would need to identify every Federal program that is outside the constitution and develop a clear plan to either restore it to state authority or pass an amendment allowing the Feds to continue.

Only then, only after reducing the scope of the programs outside of the constitution could you hope to have enough popular support to unwind the violence already done.

I agree. A Constitutional Convention today would be a disaster for conservatism.

What America (badly) needs is a return of American jobs.

Jobs.

That would help the GOP everywhere, and would help us.

Bring back American jobs. Make stuff here. Buy stuff made here.

Stop buying everything imported from China.

Exactly.

Mark Levin has proposed the way with his book The Liberty Ammendments.

The states can amend the Constitution without any interference from the Federal Government. It taks a super majority to pass changes but it is a way to control a strong central gov’t that isn’t obeying the Constitution.

Of course we need jobs. We need to stop punishing success and regulating work out of existence. We should make opening a small business as easy as running a lemonade stand.

Denninger is such a gentleman, he wrote "don't blow smoke up my ass," which you viewed as fit to print.

I don’t believe everyone on our side, is on our side yet.

Nobody seems to be for American jobs.

Not democrats, not Republicans. Nobody. Everyone is still racing to send former American jobs, to China.

I say, bring them back.

Denninger: the only solution is to unwind the previous violence done to the Constitution and then, if appropriate, pass Amendments that further constrain the rights protected by and powers delegated therein.

Only the clown Denninger, in a usual fit of rage, could so quickly contradict himself.
