A decorated WWII veteran, who never fired a shot while overseas, won a battle with a robber half his age on Saturday. The hand to hand combat lasted until Arthur M. Lewis and the robber were both exhausted. Lewis had shot the robber six times, four times in the chest, once in the arm and once in the wrist and leg. Lewis himself was wounded with a graze to his left arm.
Lewis was working behind the counter at The Jewelry Exchange at 900 N. Federal Highway when he was approached by a gun-wielding man around 3 p.m., according to an arrest report from the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office. Lewis said he immediately grabbed the suspects revolver and pulled out a .38-caliber handgun from his own pocket.Other members of the gun culture would do well to consider Mr. Lewis as an example of grace under fire. His modesty is common among the WWII veterans that I have known. I wonder how many crimes Mr. Lewis may have prevented by aiding in the incapacitation and arrest of Lennard Jervis.
The two men wrestled for several minutes and fired shots at each other. Despite battling someone half his age, Lewis got the best of it. A man identified by the sheriffs office as Lennard Patrick Jervis, a Miramar resident, was shot six times by Lewis, including four times in the chest. Lewis left arm was grazed by a bullet, but he was otherwise unscathed.
God made all men, Sam Colt made them equal!
Needs a bit more stopping power than a .38...
Good riddance, however.
Buy that man a .45!
Another gentle giant?
Huzzah for Mr. Lewis! Not only for superb handling of this jag-off, but still working at age 87. I love doing business with older workers.
Too bad Mr. Lewis’ aim was not just a tad bit better.
Wow! It seems like six shots is the magic number to bring these slugs down!
Gee? Wonder what the fellas in his gated community are gonna think?
Must be pretty embarrassing to have yer azz handed to you by an 89 year man.
Kinda like a butt kickin from some tween.
Face it. Crime is a terrible occupation for you.
Take a job selling cable door to door or something...
LOL!!!
I just realized the old man is laughing his butt off in the picture.
“I won, Son!”
I have a .38 but it's loaded with HP ammo.
Maybe he was just shooting wound like the media says we should.
87 and he has a girlfriend...studly.
Sharpton will probably show up. After all the poor thug was just probably trying to get money to feed his family.
I’m so sick of the “needs more time at the range” or “should of got a bigger gun” posts.
20 arrests since 1989?
Slacker.
Damn, Man.
Must lik3 the local jail house grub and dope.
I’d say his aim was spectacular.
That was almost certainly a 6 shot revolver he had.
He got the guy, while grappling with him with the other hand, with ALL 6.
The real thing is how lucky the perp is to be alive after being shot point blank six times by ANY caliber.
Say whatever you want about stopping power, I doubt the old man would have won had the perp not been in SERIOUS hurt from the gunshot wounds. So in short, having any gun was better than no gun. It equalized an otherwise one sided fight.
Its just a flesh wound, he’s had worse hickies. :-)
Maybe he just likes revolvers. Some guys do.Get him a .357.
Statistically speaking, 38's have killed more people than anything else.
Any gun is better than no gun. 4 shots to the chest must have had that guy bleeding pretty good. Wish we could get more details to these stories!
Happy to be alive, I’m sure.
