The Ferguson Police Chief's Statement Is Only Making Things Worse
New Republic ^ | 8-15-2014 | Brian Beutler

Five days after a police officer fired multiple rounds at and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, we now know that the officer’s name is Darren Wilson. Thanks to Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, we also know that officers believe Brown had just strong-armed a convenience store clerk for a $48.99 box of Swisher Sweets cigars. Jackson provided the incident report from that robbery to reporters in Missouri this morning. He took no questions, suggesting reporters take some time to “digest it.”

(snip)

Why did it take five days for them to release this information, none of which has anything to do with the circumstances of Brown’s death? ..... Per Matt Yglesias, if Brown was a suspect in a robbery, why wasn’t his accomplice Dorian Johnson arrested and charged rather than allowed to escape and appear in multiple television news interviews?

Was Johnson lying when he claimed that Wilson approached him and Brown not to question or arrest them for robbery but to tell them to “get the (*) onto the sidewalk”?

We don’t know because Jackson says he “cannot discuss the investigation about the attempted apprehension of the suspect in that strong-arm robbery. That goes to the county prosecutor’s office.”

I’m sure there are more questions. This is just for starters. But it smells very bad when a police department refuses to release any information about a deadly officer-involved shooting, unleashing five days of madness, and then reverses course to assure the public that Brown was a menacing, cigar-stealing thug.

Sounds like the local police chief panicked, and with good reason, and released some information with the idea it might keep riots from happening in his city.

My personal opinion is that this whole Brown affair has been stage managed from the gitgo by race baiting agitators trying to turn a tragedy into political and finical gain for themselves.

They were using the fact that the police have strict rules preventing disclosure of evidence and taking advantage of this silence to gain control of the narrative of the case and try the police in the court of public opinion in such a damaging fashion that the true facts of the case would never make a dent in their false narrative.

I think the Chief put the word out that he was going public and it shocked the race baiters who were inciting and organizing the riots enough to force them to back down and call off the thugs to allow things to cool down.

All I know is that Lawrence O’Donnell delibrately adding words into the chief’s mouth.

Every sentence the host fabricated what the chief said he made sure to ask the eyewitness ‘You didn’t see that happened?”

They're in denial. They think they can still push the "Unarmed Saint Michael" meme. There were 726 homicides committed in 2011 alone with hands, fists and feet.

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-11

The guy was 6'4" and 290 pounds and is seen on video robbing and assaulting a little Asian guy half his size, five minutes before being shot by a cop.

Even idiots can connect those dots.

He’s a life-long Democrat who worked for President Carter and was a speechwriter for Vice President Walter Mondale, so why is that surprising?

No, Brian, what smells very bad is engaging in five days of anarchy based on no accurate information and a couple of talking points, like “unarmed teen” as if unarmed people are incapable of killing or seriously injuring others.

Griping that someone else didn’t keep you from acting like an idiot doesn’t change the fact that you were the idiot, not them. Shoddy blame shifting effort notwithstanding.

I personally witnessed that cop smoke every one of those legally purchased cigars, then rape Tawana Brawley while uttering racist epithets.

That’s not why he died...He was killed.

And was very likely killed due to the fact he attacked a cop, and the cop shot him to death because this guy was just too big to mess with and apparently already attempted to take the officers weapon.

This is all I need to know about Michael Brown

So when his friend says the policeman was pulling on his arm and tried to pull him into the cop-car, I thought sure, I can believe that...you be lying.

What I learned from getting shot

Defenders of stop-and-frisk and racial profiling have made me break my public silence about the night I almost died

Brian Beutler

“...This time was different. About half a block up Euclid, Matt and I encountered two young men — both black, both wearing hoodies, characters culled from Richard Cohen’s sweatiest nightmares. They wanted our phones, which we were cleverly holding in front of our faces as we walked...”

He is making it worse for the rioters and liars who perjure themselves at the drop of a hat.

Yep. The way it was starting to spin, he needed to keep it from blowing up into a conspiracy for cops to murder "innocent Black babies", which is about hwere it would have ended up.
