There are enough signatures that have been to place on the ballot to break California up into six States.
Hasn’t this proposal popped up in the past?
Only with a sub-divide into 3 states.
Lower CA, split just above LA
Central CA, up to Sacramento
Northern CA Sacramento up to OR
I seem to remember none of the northern two wanted the San Fran wierdos..:^)
Yes, it is possible that some of the new ‘states’ could be conservative. However, with a Democrat controlled state government, I have a feeling that the drawing of these new states would be very circuitous, taking maximum advantage of demographics.
However, I don’t think it’s going to happen - even get close to it. It’s just another dream like DC becoming a state. They (Democrats) just don’t have the numbers throughout the rest of the states to assure statehood.
Lastly, and most importantly, I think the last thing any producing American wants is another 5 states with 10 more Senators added to the 100 fools we have now (at least 90% of them, anyway).
Does no one understand the Constitution anymore? For this to happen, the state legislature must approve it (the people can vote all they want, it means nothing). Then Congress has to agree to it also. Without all that, it will never happen. And I have absolutely no doubt that Congress won’t agree to giving California 6 times as many senators as it now has.
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
So Baraq was ahead if his time with 57 states.
See Post 4.
A different level of gerrymandering?
Yeah. I’ve been meaning to analyze data for the proposed states, but it would be next to pointless at this time since the crayons would be in the hands of politicians, and they’ll do what they’ll do to ensure party control. There’s probably no way the state leg. would be fair in drawing up a map without considerable input from the affected people, and it’s unlikely that even if asked the pols (their power brokers) would listen to the people — and thus why the people (some) want independent statehood. Catch-22.
Oh ya, last point. The issue is the Senate is malformed, it’s purpose was to represent the institutions of the independent states, not the elitist popularity contest it has become since the 17th. The Senate doesn’t represent the people! Yet its members are now directly beholden to the people, thus we have the pandering, robbery of the treasury to disemenate among the mob in exchange for another 6-year ride at the reins. So yeah, given the state of things, another 10 Senators is about the last thing any responsible person would want.
To whom?
Wisconsin with 72 counties will break into 72 states. /s
