Its been just over a year since the world was introduced to Rachel Jeantel, the friend of Trayvon Martins who testified on behalf of the prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial, but may have ended up doing more harm than good.
CNN caught up with Jeantel this week, asking her if she blamed herself when Zimmerman went free. A little bit, she replied. Asked if she should have said something different or acted differently on the stand, she answered, Act different. Jeantel said the jurors in the case didnt take her seriously as a witness, judging her for the way she looks and talks.
While Jeantels reading level was not above that of a third grader last summer, she has since turned her life around, undergoing intensive tutoring and graduating from high school this spring. She now credits the turnaround to her experience with the trial, saying she kept her word to Trayvon Martin to complete her high school education.
But the frank attitude she displayed in the courtroom was still there when the reporter asked her what she would say to Zimmerman today. He did wrong, and hes got to man up to it, she said. To me, youre not a man, George Zimmermans not a man. Thats still a little boy, with a grown body.

My cure for chicago is to drop about 10k AK’s all over town on a Sat night with a 65 colts.
It's a small step. Plenty of HS graduates are at or below that reading level.
I must admit, I’ve watched a lot of these shows, mainly while on the phone with my daughter laughing, joking and predicting.
The one thing I notice for a lot of them is that they have that quick little smile like they’ve been caught in a lie, and then they bury their faces in their hands and go running off stage fake-sobbing - they never let you see their faces. They’re just there to get that DNA paper on the ONE guy who gets caught - and they know they’re gonna have to go through several to get to him finally.
In a year she went from reading at a third grade level to high school graduate. Yep, I totally buy that!

You have absolutely no idea about the “standards” in high school now ... over half need remedial classes in college for things we learned in middle school. College is the new high school.
She’s had her 17 minutes of fame — now go call Jenny Craig.
Did she mention if she’s still binge drinking?
Yepper - you know you're in the potty when this is the type story you use to try to keep people interested. Might as well bring in reruns of Katie Couric's colonoscopy....
CNN is awful propaganda all the time, basically it and that loathsome MSNBC are going for the same audience and it wont end well for one of them.
Uh, the pros were called on for her. She is coiffed, powdered, and polished there.
The girl's a genius...Went from 3rd grade to 12th grade in one year...
Good gosh. She went from pig size to full grown sow size in one year.
My cousin’s daughter recently graduated from high school. She posted on FB for ‘everyone please read my book!!!’. I tried. It was too painful. Two chapters of bad grammar, bad sentence structure, bad spelling, and just plain old awful thought continuation. It is written at about a fifth grade level. I can’t believe she actually graduated.
A 300 lb slab of ghetto attitude
I believe in educrat speak they call it ‘social promotion’.
A “high school education” is now obviously about as meaningful as Obama’s Nobel Prize.
hes not going to be the same person he was before St. Skittles came into his life.
Too many people have a cavalier attitude about taking a life. It leaves a stain on your soul even if it’s in self defense or combat.
Do what you have to do but do it without all the bravado and the carnivalesque atmosphere.
Which means she got up to the fourth grade level.
While dealing with High School grads in the Air Force I learned most adults read on a 7th or 8th grade level.
Wait, no... no, don't tell me. Lemme guess...
That's raysis!!
