The destruction of good food by restaurants in this country is a national embarrassment.

But fully approved by the US Chamber of Crony-Fascists.

Why is that? I loathe the Chamber of Commerce but don’t understand this.

My husband has run restaurants and has come up against the health department Nazis who have made him throw out good food because of some lunatic infraction. Boy, if they only knew how they were hated by chefs!

The employee offered to pay for the corn muffin.

Only because he got caught. The time to pay for something is BEFORE you steal it, not after.

If you give expired food away that cuts into the demand for food that they can charge for.

“I’ve read a description of the problems with him, he seems to not care about the simple rules.”

We I haven’t read anything other than the article about him. But companies many times have enough stupid rules, its almost impossible for anyone to follow them.

Most Cracker Barrels are not in places where homeless people would gather; so I would wonder how he would be attracting them.

But the guy just should have gotten a job somewhere else.

Cracker Barrel restaurants tend to be located alongside interstate highways at major interchanges.

“Homeless” have taken to sitting or standing with their signs at offramp intersections of major interchanges of interstate highways. I put the word in quotes because I suspect many of them are leftist activists raising “awareness.” but, they’re not all theater. The real ones live under the bridge.

If he is willing to pay for what they stole once he was caught, he is still a thief. My thought would be “How much has he given away up until he got caught?”

Oh I understood your point. I also understand how I as a Christian run my business and how I treat my employees and my cutovers. I am not a large corporation. You run your business any old way you want.

well exactly. I know of food places that at the end of the day (and no this place is not the big brand soup and sandwich place doing a lot of advertising on tv) does two things:1) they feed folks (there is a limit based on two long tables near the center of the dining room) a meal based on left overs from today’s meals that won’t last until tomorrow and would have to be thrown away; 2) Any useable food after the meal is donated to a local food bank.

I just find it very interesting that people can be so focussed on the bottom line that they forget to be kind.

I know, huh.

A lot of folks think that just stealing a little is OK.

One poster here stated (deleted #57) “It’s a *** corn muffin.”

It’s usually just a little, over and over again, until they get caught. If the shoe was on the other foot, and Cracker Barrel arbitrarily gave a buck or two out of an employee’s pay to a “needy” individual they just might get it.

“No Christian charity? Or forgiveness for sins? I’m disappointed in you!”

Again, charity, (you say Christian?) is NOT giving away stuff that belongs to somebody else.

This fired guy “would do it again”. No repentance. Repentance and forgiveness go together.

You’re “disappointed” in metmom. Kind of a statement of judgement there. I’m sure you’ll twist it around some more and at me even. Your moral relativism is NOT Christian.

Why? Because of this? The man was warned repeatedly and reminded repeatedly about the policy. If they gave free food to everyone that was homeless or had a hard luck story, paying customers wouldn’t be able to get in the door.

There is another factor behind the policy -- potential lawsuits from homeless people who claim they choked on a muffin or contracted food poisoning from a muffin or were illegally discriminated against because their free muffin was smaller than someone else's muffin.

And some people here are still trying to justify the Theft while disregarding
the moral facts and reoccurring problem with the Employee.

It’s as though they don’t share conservative values, and I scratch my head wondering how it is that they are long time FReepers.

Moral relativism is the invented morality of the progressives, and is immorality rationalized.

Just to remind the usual Scrooges here, we’re talking about packets of mayonnaise and a couple of lousy CB muffins. We are not talking about free meals, free steaks, etc. Or a free bottle of gin.

And the proper thing for him to do was 1) get permission from management, or 2) pay for it himself.

The real live ones tend to live in big cities for obvious reasons. I’m very used to (unfortunately) the homeless. Maybe they hang out on interstates but I’ve never seen that. Who buses them there and back?

Unfortunately, these generous people may get into serious trouble feeding people. Sad world we live in thanks to lawyers.

Charity is NOT giving away other people’s stuff.

Tell that to the federal government.
