Yesterday, Jani Bergdahl and Bob Bergdahl, the parents of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, were invited to the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington DC. Bob Bergdahl spoke about the release of his son Bowe. Then he praised Allah and Obama hugged him.
(VIDEO-AT-LINK)
Sgt. Bergdahl, 28, had been held prisoner by the Taliban since June 30, 2009.
The Daily Caller reported:
At the end of brief event, the soldiers father, Bob Bergdahl, recited the most frequent phrase in the Koran Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim which means In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.
After Bergdahl finished his statement and his praise for Allah, Obama hugged him.
Then Bob Bergdahl went and deleted this tweet where he wrote God will repay for the death of every Afghan child, ameen!
UPDATE: On Sunday Bob Bergdahl said he was proud of how his son Bowe was willing to help the Afghan people.
But most of all, Im proud of how much you wanted to help the Afghan people, and what you were willing to do to go to that length, Bob Bergdahl said, fighting back tears during a press conference in Boise. Ill say it again: Im so proud of how far you were willing to go to help the Afghan people. And I think you have succeeded.
Parents Bob and Jani Bergdahl didnt elaborate on what that meant.
Thats just bizarre
That is the first question I had. How did this guy survive this? You are right, they usually end up minus their heads. Very curious.
If it had been more, it might have been a dead give away then. Too hard to hide.
For five years, people who have known him said he is not what the media or Obama are portraying him as. He is possibly a deserter, or a traitor, or a confused free spirit. He wandered off on his own. Why?
Bergdahl and his father seem to be supporters of the Taliban. Maybe you need to read further into this story.
Actually, you’ve just described the plot of “Stalag 17” in which the mole is an American turned Nazi. Every war seems to produce traitors. I don’t know about this soldier yet but his father is a Taliban supporter. As well as being a freak akin to Johnny Jihad’s father. Anybody remember him?
I wonder who ABalkhi is?
It seems that you and about everyone else have a different take on this. I got the impression from listening to the father that he was being extremely careful as to what he was saying so as not to appear traitorous to the nation at large and yet relay some sort of message to his son and possibly others.
I could comment, but it is probably best that I don’t.
Step back a step and consider why they are communicating via a public video presser, rather than a personal phone call. They are being handled, of course.
Then we can go to the cui bono (who benefits?) .
Once again, the battle will be in the reporting. Will the media have any curiosity about the "rest of the story"? Will the events that followed his "capture" be widely and fully related? Will we hear from his one time comrades in arms through other than blogs and recaps of blogs? Joe Six Pack does not red blogs.
For What It is Worth, I’m with you on this one.
Your point is certainly true in that there are indeed traitors in every war. But in regards to Stalag 17, if I may clarify:
The character played by Peter Graves (Sgt. Price) was actually German, not an American traitor. This is revealed twice in the movie:
Stetson (William Holden) confirms Price as the mole when Price claims he heard of the attack on Pearl Harbor at dinner. Stetson then says (I paraphrase); Dinner? It was noon in Cleveland. It was dinner time in Berlin.
The second is when price gets shot by the German guards. His last words (spoken in German) were: Dont shoot! I am German.
I thought he was German-American. He certainly lived in America, didn’t he? Or was he just very well versed and Bill Holden caught him out in lies?
My apologies if I got the details wrong. A fine film but I haven’t seen it for about 6 months. It’s one of my husband’s favorites.
For 22 years, I lived in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. It was a hotbed of traitors prior and during WWII.
FOX this morning was pretty good on the details of this new scandal. I was surprised - I thought they’d have a love fest about the release of this soldier. Instead, they reported on his deserter-status. I hope they keep it up but I doubt it.
IIRC, price attended college in the USA, in Cleveland, prior to the war (of course).
It is one of my all time favorite movies as well.
Thanks for straightening me out on the details. Peter Graves is perfectly cast in that movie - he’s so all-American, who would question him? But he gets a nasty comeuppance.
“They are being handled, of course.”
I am glad you said this. I REALLY felt that was the case, seeing them talk. Their emotion and love for their son was NOT feigned. But what they said was very deliberate and careful. Can I blame them? No, I do not know the whole story. I know some of their personal HISTORY, and it is sound.
I think many have a different take on this because recent statements by Bergdahl Sr have been inconsistent with everything else up until now.
I totally agree, those parents were being super careful what they said, and there was a reason for that, and I don’t know what it was.
“Bergdahl and his father seem to be supporters of the Taliban. Maybe you need to read further into this story.”
They seem to be according to some reports. Not to others. What to believe? The “supporters” stuff seems to be very (the last couple of days?) recent. Nothing before that. Is it for real?
” He wandered off on his own. Why?”
The $64,000 question. I don’t know.
Well, there are none so blind...
