An Australian woman is fighting to get rid of compulsory bicycle helmet laws because she deems them to be "sexist."
Sue Abbott of New South Wales believes that people should have the option of whether to wear bicycle helmets because forcing women to use helmets is "sexist."
"It is a very sexist law because a lot of women have maintained hairstyles and would end up with helmet hair," Ms. Abbott explains. "And women have told me thats one of the factors (for not riding bikes)."
Specifically, Abbott is campaigning to make helmets optional instead of mandatory. She believes those who say that wearing helmets are important for safety do not understand a woman's need to have nice "hairstyles" and are sexist for suggesting women should follow mandatory helmet laws.

After seeing her picture, I’d definitely insist on wearing a helmet with hair like that.
Yes. Before I got my motorcycle(s), I rode a bicycle to and from work and never wore a helmet. ;-)
And when a lady turned her car left in front of me, I hurt my thigh bashing into her fender, but not my head.
Some insurance adjuster followed me around for two days insisting that I sign some waiver or other about not suing the woman.
I told him that my word is my bond, and I would never sue her because it was an accident, and I already fixed my bike anyway.
I agree it is no business of the State.
;-)
Plastic surgery has never entered my mind. I’m growing old and wrinkly as gracefully as I am
able. I just wish my hair would hurry up and turn all the way white. I don’t like this gray stuff.
White hair is lovely. Mr. T has white hair.
Cool! He must cut quite a dashing figure. ;-)
He does indeed. :)
I still use my old guy Bell bike helmet.
it’s clear she has no brains to protect, she can ride without one. any woman who takes hairstyles over helmets - if they crack their head open, the world hasn’t lost any geniuses, that’s for damn sure.
There’s no way that the State should mandate helmets for riding a bicycle. Sounds like a stupid law that should be repealed. Here in America, now, we have the right to ignore laws we disagree with, as shown by some of our top public servants.
Reality is worse than the onion.

And she's been trying to make her point -which has nothing to do with sexism or racism - for 5 years
Declaration of peronal interest- Moi has just been fined (including imposed payment to mythical victims compensation fund), driving licence suspended, registration of vehicles blocked, threatened seizure. For
failure to pick up litter.
"Pickle me grandmother, somebody should blow the courts up!"
Compulsory helmet wearing enforced by the nanny state is just another ding against liberty that is tolerated by “civil” societies, you know, like being disarmed.
It’s for your own good, you know.
I’m against bike helmets because it is a choice I make if I wear a helmet. (I do during the ride to work, weekends no...)
Plug ugly.
