An Australian woman is fighting to get rid of compulsory bicycle helmet laws because she deems them to be "sexist."
Sue Abbott of New South Wales believes that people should have the option of whether to wear bicycle helmets because forcing women to use helmets is "sexist."
"It is a very sexist law because a lot of women have maintained hairstyles and would end up with helmet hair," Ms. Abbott explains. "And women have told me thats one of the factors (for not riding bikes)."
Specifically, Abbott is campaigning to make helmets optional instead of mandatory. She believes those who say that wearing helmets are important for safety do not understand a woman's need to have nice "hairstyles" and are sexist for suggesting women should follow mandatory helmet laws.

Take your pick—helmet hair or casket hair
Mohawk.
I'll bet you won't have to wait that long, what with the obvious "HE" taking up fully two thirds of the letters in "tHE."
But we can't go the other way with "tHER' either. And "thIT" has implied violence in "HIT."
I guess this points to an article free world for true gender neutrality.
No, invent your own helmet.
There are probably laws against that too.
In Asia, women drive around on scooters wearing those silly surgical masks...which only work to prevent you (the mask wearer) from contaminating others.
That needs to be outlawed. There are some really hot babes there, but it’s impossible to tell, if they’re behind a mask.
Finally, someone speaks the truth!
Oh and BTW ...
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning -- in your lifetime -- are 1 in 5,000.
Or one could be
willing to immediately take a shower with POI Ieim Iately after helmet remowal.
And I’m not going to go around with a lightning rod up my rear end either
Rode my bicycle from the age of 6 until I was 17 or 18. Rode it every day. I have never worn a helmet. I believe that the only thing gayer than wearing a bike helmet is an Obama first pitch.
One can either ride a bike confidently and competently or one should not be on a bike.
Works for me. I now wear a ski helmet. It,s warmer than a hat and novsunburned ear lobes.
Not playing golf can help improve your odds.
Plenty of things come to mind.
Shallow
Petty
Narcissistic
Selfish
Stupid
Dangerous
And more...
Talk about dying or getting brain damage for fashion. There is a war on women, and it is waged by this Auzzie idiot.
I rode a motorcycle for years, and you would never, never catch me riding without my helmet, leathers, and gloves. I crashed it once, and my helmet helped a lot by scraping along between the ground and my face.
Is this Free Republic? Or have I somehow stumbled onto DU?
FWIW, I always wore a helmet when riding a motorcycle. But a bicycle? Not saying it’s not smart to do so, but it’s beyond the proper purview of the State.
Good thinking.
I,ve heard that plastic surgery is expensive and sometimes painful.
