Dad Arrested for Speaking Up About Pornographic Content in Required Reading for 9th Graders

A reading assignment has some parents in New Hampshire confused and upset.

The controversial book “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult is required reading for some 9th grade students at Gilford High School. The book is a fictional story about a school shooting and has been part of the curriculum since 2007.

School officials say that the book contains important themes, but parents say that message is overshadowed by what some call pornographic content on one page. The book was assigned to students last Monday, but the school failed to give parents of freshmen students notice of the sexually explicit content in the novel. One page of the book contains a graphic description of rough sex between two teenagers.

Some parents are outraged, and attended a school board meeting to make their feelings known.

William Baer, whose 14-year old daughter is a student at the school, was one of the parents who spoke out at the meeting. He was promptly arrested for doing so:

Baer, who is an attorney, told EAGnews that the school “has no business introducing such themes” to students, and questioned why it is acceptable for “the state, through its schools and agents,” to mandate reading and discussing this kind of material.

In a written response to EAGnews, Gilford school leaders admitted they didn’t warn parents of the book’s controversial nature like they have in previous years, and promised to send a letter to the home “of all students who are currently assigned the book.”

It’s a little late now, isn’t it?

The incident at Gilford isn’t unique: reading assignments that contain pornographic material seem to be more and more of a “normal” occurrence, especially since the introduction of Common Core curriculum in schools.

In his article Sex and the Public Schools, Michael Snyder discusses ways schools are sexualizing our children at younger and younger ages. Some public schools are mandating sex education for kindergarteners. Earlier this year, a middle school in Kansas decided that adding anal sex, oral sex, and touching were appropriate topics to add to their health class curriculum.

If your child must attend public school, you may want to pay close attention to the assignments they being given.

Because they are perverts. They do not want to be judged by anyone for anything. So the defile all that is good and innocent. I think deep down in their little puny stone hearts, they know there is a God and they don't like it. I also think they all suffer from arrested development. Ever have an argument with one? Does not take them long to act like children. Because they can't think like adults the prey on children. They tell your children that you as a parent suck because you make them follow rules. They grab your kids in high school with these do-gooder projects and then after wards they give them pizza and beer.

Look how libs act, John F'n Kerry a United States Senator at the time, acting like he's smoking a joint. That's cool. Barak Obama taking mushrooms and snorting coke. That's cool. But this guy who gets up every day and goes to work and wants to protect his little girl, and yes maybe he's not the sharpest tool in the box so freaking what! He has the right to be heard. His freaking tax dollars pay for that damn school whether his kids go there or not.

For the bragger about the Catholic Schools. I am a Catholic and even though most of them are somewhat better then public schools, there is a lot of crap going on there as well. <. Getting down off my soap box.

And where do we get these wonderful school board members? And the federal gov. really controls the schools. Locals just go to meetings.

“Public schools are paid for with tax dollars and that entitles people who send their children to private schools and pay taxes to complain as well.”

Actually the First Amendment gives people that right. But the FACT that the schools are funded by GOVERNMENT, rather than parents (as far as schools are concerned) means that they haven’t to do jack for parents, and they don’t.

It is clear you did not watch the video. Had you watched the video, you would have seen a bumbling creep saying nonsense and told 100 times to shut up and wait his turn. So not only is he a bumbling bumpkin, he is rude to others who were waiting to speak their turn. I don’t care though...he is resting in jail. Maybe he can speak his speech to himself and see how dumb he was.

Sorry, but we are way past that time. No one cares that the parents are, technically, their Bosses.

And pushing a Candidate is something that might just go the “other” way.

It is time for people to make a stand and draw a line, the Board showed no respect, for that matter the School didn’t either.

In my opinion, neither deserve respect, and I’m getting sick of ‘turn the other cheek” attitudes (not saying that’s what YOU have), but...our Founding Fathers did the respect thing, and eventually, even they knew when it was time to yell.

In MY opinion, it’s time to Yell.

I am generally opposed to “free” and compulsory public education. That being said, as long as my tax dollars are being spent for it, and as long as its existence is dictated by law, I intend to voice my opinion whether I am otherwise connected to public education or not.

Over the years, I have been affiliated with public schools, private schools and several home education programs. I will not avoid doing work for a school district even if I am generally opposed to public education because it is better that they operate more efficiently at a lower cost than to fail even worse that they already have been. Even if I am like you and have nothing to do with public school, I am aware that there are many people for which there is no other option. For them, I do not want the public school system to have unbridled reign to indoctrinate the next generation with anti-Christian and communistic brainwashing. I do not want them to abuse children, including the sexual exploitation of the children in their care.

I do not know your reasons for homeschooling, but I would venture to guess it is based on your family’s Christian beliefs since that is the most common reason to home school. If so, your words do not underscore such a profession of faith since it does not matter to you that children are being sexually abused here (or, in your words, you are “glad to see this crap going on”), as long as they are not your children being abused.

Having been part of home education over a number of years and supporting encouraging others to do the same, I have had my fill of self-righteous, religious folk who piously home educate but care not for their neighbors or their neighbors’ children.

Jesus taught to love your neighbor as yourself. If you do that, you will love your neighbors’ children as you love your own. When children are being persecuted for their faith, and other children are being sexually abused as a matter of policy, and when parents are arrested for getting angry over it, it should not make you glad.

Actually your interpretation of the video is completely incorrect. The only bumbler is you in trying to defend the jackboots on this school board. Why are you on FR.. you obviously do not believe in conservative principles or action.

Good Lord. Get a life and leave me alone. You are worse then a stalker. Constantly asking me stupid questions. I have asked you numerous times never to reply to me but you insist. I know people have crushes on people they don’t know but please refrain.

It's not time to make noise. It's time to change bad policies. Elect school board members that will do a good job.

OK. Sure. No prob. Oh, and what magic spell makes that happen?

Elections and campaigns. It takes effort, which most people don’t have.

I believe in speaking softly and carrying a big stick. Mouths are a dime a dozen and worth less than that. A precision electorial shot taking out the dragon gets much better results.

Really? You mean Obama didn't have to be POTUS for 2 terms? All I had to do was vote for someone else? Well smack my head " I coulda had a V8" style. If only we had all known that it actually works like that, we would have run and voted for an opposing candidate. Sheesh!

Really not trying to be a smart a$$, but yeah, that worked out real well when trying to get rid of Obama, and it will work out just as well with this school board.

Hope I’m wrong, but don’t think I am.

If people don’t start making a scene now, when will it be acceptable? I believe the time needs to be now.

Public forums aren’t for 5 minute filibusters. Make your comment, briefly, and then let someone else speak.

If the people that stayed home went out and voted against Obama, he wouldn't have had a 2nd term.

Now with school board elections, we have low turnout, and most people not knowing anything about the candidates. Conservatives have taken many boards back from the unions by running candidates against MEA members, and then getting the conservatives out to vote for their slate.

That was helped through political mailings, knocking on doors of voters, and the groundwork that's necessary that 95% of the people refuse to do. Those 95% just complain instead.

Do you think the Democratic Party's voter fraud might have something to do with 2nd term?

Maybe the spineless GOP-e should stop performing fellatio across the aisle on their liberal bffs and fight to win.
