A reading assignment has some parents in New Hampshire confused and upset.
The controversial book Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult is required reading for some 9th grade students at Gilford High School. The book is a fictional story about a school shooting and has been part of the curriculum since 2007.
School officials say that the book contains important themes, but parents say that message is overshadowed by what some call pornographic content on one page. The book was assigned to students last Monday, but the school failed to give parents of freshmen students notice of the sexually explicit content in the novel. One page of the book contains a graphic description of rough sex between two teenagers.
Some parents are outraged, and attended a school board meeting to make their feelings known.
William Baer, whose 14-year old daughter is a student at the school, was one of the parents who spoke out at the meeting. He was promptly arrested for doing so:
Baer, who is an attorney, told EAGnews that the school has no business introducing such themes to students, and questioned why it is acceptable for the state, through its schools and agents, to mandate reading and discussing this kind of material.
In a written response to EAGnews, Gilford school leaders admitted they didnt warn parents of the books controversial nature like they have in previous years, and promised to send a letter to the home of all students who are currently assigned the book.
Its a little late now, isnt it?
The incident at Gilford isnt unique: reading assignments that contain pornographic material seem to be more and more of a normal occurrence, especially since the introduction of Common Core curriculum in schools.
In his article Sex and the Public Schools, Michael Snyder discusses ways schools are sexualizing our children at younger and younger ages. Some public schools are mandating sex education for kindergarteners. Earlier this year, a middle school in Kansas decided that adding anal sex, oral sex, and touching were appropriate topics to add to their health class curriculum.
If your child must attend public school, you may want to pay close attention to the assignments they being given.
you are an idiot
i didn’t say that .
the public schools which are government should be abolished
I’m for :
separation of government and education
separation of government and the economy
parents can educate their own kids how they see fit not according to some gov law or gov school
You sir are quite correctly observant!
Good LORD!!! You are the idiot to expect a parent to acquiesce to this crap in council meetings. I have seen this crap in our own city council regarding city matters and believe me they use these “rules” to limit public debate and sideline the RIGHTS of citizens! So who is the idiot... the one who goes willingly down a path that destroys God Given Rights or the one who stands up and fights and does not back down?
You better care about PUBLIC SCHOOLS... they are educating masses of people who will own your ass at the voting booth in less than a generation.
You can have a heart attack all day long worrying about this crap. I wish you well but you the idiot for worrying about such stupid things. Become a good parent for a change and send you dang kids to private school.....stop spending your money on junk you don’t need like spa treatments and vacations to Vail every year and send you kids to private school so you don’t leave Earth so soon. Your worrying over this is troublesome.
You are the idiot to expect a parent to acquiesce to this crap in council meetings.
Actually I don’t care if he does or doesn’t follow the rules. However, I am enjoying myself tonight at the Hershey Hotel with the family. This guy is behind bars....now who is the idiot. All he had to do was shut up until two other people spoke and then he could say his incoherent stupid nonsense for the rest of the day. At least he wouldn’t be seen as a person who feels he is more important than the other parents.
Your words reveal who and what you are. Let your post stand on it’s own... pretty sad.
By the way... my kid went to private school she is turning 30 this year and turned out quite well. The journey through private school was just as arduous and you had to be just as alert to idiot instructors and admin. It’s called parental involvement. This man was doing the same and frankly, I cannot fathom why you are attacking him. You have to be a complete maroon... and that is putting it kindly.
Any parent that sends their kids to public schools deserves EXACTLY what they get. If they want to complain, then yes, they should be subject to arrest, if for nothing else, then sending their kids to the school in the first place.
Why does the left want to force sex on young children?
He got the story out. Thanks to him many people know what this public school is pushing on children. The time for making nice with perverts is gone. Time to make some noise.
Here’s another school assignment in CA.
Rialto Assignment Asking Students to Question Holocaust to Be Revised
The Rialto school district planned to revise an eighth-grade assignment that raised red flags by asking students to consider arguments about whether the Holocaust the systematic killing by the Nazis of some 6 million Jews and millions of others was not an actual event but instead a propaganda tool that was used for political and monetary gain.
Should we be polite about this, too? Being polite gets you nothing. The left doesn’t respond to politeness. I am glad stories about what schools have become are getting noticed. America is headed for total destruction and it begins in public schools. All the more reason for responsible Americans to home-school their children.
Public schools are paid for with tax dollars and that entitles people who send their children to private schools and pay taxes to complain as well.
I was just going to say something similar.
You can keep your house nice and clean but if every other house in the neighorhood is filth, trash, feces, rat infested meth lab house, your house will stink and your neighborhood will be a trash pit and people will break in your house all the time.
Making nice for far too long is the reason we’re going off the cliff.
They want to use them as sex objects.
It's not time to make noise. It's time to change bad policies. Elect school board members that will do a good job.
Call to the publics are usually 30 seconds or 1 minute. It’s not for a fillibuster. People need to say their piece and shut up. Then, they need to talk to the board members after the meeting and workon changing the bad policy. If that doesn’t work, there’s elections.
