Aftermath of Ukraine Photo Story Shows Need for More Caution (We're sorry for false photos?
New York Times ^ | 4/24/2014 (35 minutes ago) | Margaret Sullivan

The Times led its print edition Monday with an article based in part on photographs that the State Department said were evidence of Russian military presence in popular uprisings in Ukraine. The headline read: "Photos link masked men in East Ukraine to Russia."

...

The Times has published a second article backing off from the original [link at URL] and airing questions about what the photographs are said to depict, but hardly addressing how the newspaper may have been misled.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; History; Military/Veterans; Society
KEYWORDS: 113th; agitprop; democrats; elections; eu; europe; fakephotos; faketitle; fauxtography; france24; frobamabots; frsorosbots; greenmen; ibtz; kerry; lavrov; lies; newyorktimes; obama; obamashills; putin; russia; ukraine; waronerror; yellowjournalism
Unkowingly misled or willingly misled? The article has a link to consortiumnews that rips the Times for apparently taking administration leaks, drawing hard conclusions from them, but ignoring alternative explanations. The Times has "lacked skepticism," IMHO.

But the Times is right - finally after all theses years- about one thing: this was all a big "governement handout" that they printed.

Is that what this has come to:?

Aw, shucks, we’re sorry that we ran with a pile of crap. We promise to do better next time.

Do they want U.S. involvement in Ukraine?

Libya? Syria? Egypt?

We need to stay out of this, IMHO.

I don’t care about Russia or Ukraine or Putin or Obama in the sense of our soldiers or our nation getting involved in another could-be “spring” or some mess (like Libya/Benghazi/Egypt/etc) that could come back to haunt us.

Whom did we arm in Afghanistan way before 9/11 that came back to bite us?

I support America. That’s it. Not Amerika.

The blogger is exaggerating. He's referring to the photos of the bearded Spetznas, which in only some of the photos is "grainy." It is hard to say if it's the same Russkie photographed in Georgia, then Crimea, and then in Eastern Ukraine. It could just be some other guy with identical uniform, military patch, and long beard.

The other photos have no such ambiguities, albeit, the fellows are all masked. Though, they're in the same exact uniform, same ammo bags, same weapons, etc. The Russians used the same method in Chechnya, moving in Russian troops pretending to be Pro-Moscow Chechnyans, and they have forces who train to be "ambiguous" for these kinds of operations.

Yup. The overarching point still stands. Same uniform, same weapons...etc.

Now back to our continuing coverage of the crisis in journ0lism that’s resulting from all those unregulated unlicensed pajama-wearing bloggers who print news that’s not been vetted.

Uniforms would be made out of "whole cloth". Check for matching pieces of "camo" uniforms.

In one photo it is the same fellow in camo, with even the way he was wearing his ammo pouches and carrying his sniper rifle.
