So, its a warm day, and youre standing in a parking lot, drinking a refreshing can of iced tea.
Suddenly, a random dude walks up and demands your beverage. You show him that it is in fact iced tea and that you arent publicly intoxicated. He tells you to give him the can and you say no, figuring this stranger can get his own iced tea.
This is exactly what happened to rapper Christopher Xstrav Beatty, who was handcuffed and arrested by Officer Rick Libero of the Cumberland County Alcoholic Beverage Control Law Enforcement for drinking a can of Arizona iced tea in the parking lot of a liquor store in Fayetteville, North Carolina last April. Luckily for Beatty, a friend was right there, capturing the arrested on his camera. Its also important to note that Officer Libero did NOT immediately identify himself as a police officer.
One would think that with the entire debacle on video that Beattys plight would have ended shortly after this incident. One would be incorrect. Beatty was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, and is being offered a deal by prosecutors. (Is it an election year? This wouldnt be the first prosecutor to crack down for a ridiculous reason in order to win fame and garner votes.)
Lets be sure we are 100% clear on this.
THEY WANT A MAN WHO IS GUILTY OF DRINKING ICED TEA AND NOT GOING AWAY AT THE ORDER OF AN (AT THE TIME) UNIDENTIFIED MAN TO TAKE A PLEA BARGAIN.
According to a court document, the deal would punish Beatty with probation and community service on misdemeanor allegations that he was trespassing and resisted a public officer.

It’s as clear as the nose on my face; this was a RACIST enforcer hassling a black man. If I’d been doing the same, drinking my iced tea, it would have been ignored, because no one would perceive me as a threat!
It’s perfectly obvious that police departments are screening out applicants with IQs over 80. Or 70.
No. It doesn't.
He was using it in the sense of “legitimate rape.”
And the whole point of a uniformed cop is so that there is no misunderstanding as to identity and authority. Which is why the actual contact should be made by someone in uniform.
What is with these liquor agents anyway? Couldn’t get a job as a real cop but want to role play at it anyway.
And identify themselves in a reliable manner, not just yell “police!”Anyone can do that.
More like arrested for being free. It happens to whites just as often or more.
Get the right lawyer and it could be the “officer’s” money.

"... The one thing I dont get about this story is the trespassing charge. ..."It's called "Building Probable-Cause Backwards". It could also be a violation of the P.O.P. ordinance (Pissin' Off The Police).
We need to weed out these Barney Fifes and recruit more Andy Griffiths.
He needs to be reasonably identifiable. When you start with a street image, the bar goes up on reasonable. Saying “I’m a cop” s no longer sufficient. There is still the case of the two college girls. In their situation, their safety depended on instant reaction to insane behavior.
that is one of my favorite quotes.
Oh Dear
Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals.
Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone?
But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.
Atlas Shrugged ...
How long before some of these out-of-uniform cops start getting killed? Their behavior is indistinguishable from stalking, assault, battery ...
My husband likes Ginger Beer, which is a non-alcoholic drink, packaged in either brown or green glass bottles.
I was buying some at the health food store when the woman behind me squealed excitedly “I didn’t know they sold beer here”! She was so disappointed when I told here it was non-alcoholic :)
The woman in question discovered idiocy at a new level.
Watch the video. That POS thug cop is simply gastapo and must be prosecuted for illegal search, seizure, and arrest.
Back in the 60s when I was in HS in Orlando, about midnight (no traffic at all out) I was coming home from a date. This car pulls up in the lane next to me and the driver starts waving his hand at me to pull over. No lights, nothing to indicate anything but some clown threatening me. Didn’t look like any unmarked car I’d ever seen. So, I keep on driving. I can’t remember whether he then started waving a badge at me or turned on a blue light. After I stopped he arrogantly demanded to know why I didn’t pull over, made some half ass threats then let me go because I had not been violating any traffic laws. Other than driving at 17. My respect for LEO started going down then, and has never stopped going down.
Totally unnecessarily for the whole incident. As far as I could see the pri*k was just cruising around looking to harass someone.
Lakeland FL: I had cops come to my door and get nasty and in my face looking for someone I never heard of. No warrant & no evidence that person had any connection to my address except the criminal gave the police a fake address (mine) when he was arrested initially. And the cops are too lazy AND incompetent to verify it before threatening me. Good thing that was over 15 years ago; now they would have just busted in my door and beat the crap out of me.
I will never again allow a cop (I didn’t invite) on to my property without a warrant. I will not talk to them. Period.
It still makes me angry when I think about it, even after this many years. Oh, and the clincher was the cop (one of three!) that was so in my face and calling me a liar was some puffed up woman about 5’4”. Put a gun on her and she grew stones. Last I read recently, Lakeland PD has been caught pulling over women and doing illegal boob searches & feel ups. Another corrupt & incompetent female police chief.
