The Eureka Springs, Arkansas city council had a special meeting on how to deal with a planned open carry/celebrate Act 746 walk in the city. Some of the discussion is disturbing, as a council member openly seems to suggest ways in which to conspire to chill the exercise of the second amendment. The video is 42:40 long on YouTube. The most chilling comments are these, beginning about 22:30:
"What I think I have, I think I have heard you say, that, our only recourse of action is then, is what you are going to do with the signs, which I commend you, our only recourse of action that we can do is shut the town to them. and make it unavailable to them. so that when they get here they cannot eat, they cannot get a cup of coffee, they cannot shop they can't ride the trolley, they cannot take a taxi, about all they can do is walk up and down the street."
"Ok, so what we really need to do then is to have a PR campaign to get all of the business owners on our side on this and to make it clear to them what our plan is, if we decide to do this, and then get the word out, because I think if we can do this and do it effectively, and quite frankly as a PR opportunity here, is a marketers dream, but I am not going to get into that unless you ask me, but we, we can then, we are taking point here, then show other communities what they can do to counter act this because we are doing this first."
"We welcome everyone." "Treat them like anyone else." "They have the right to prove their right."But the council member on the near left, in the baseball cap, has some of the last words:
We don't want this particular group of gun owners who are trying to rub our noses in it.He says he will put a sign on his business. For one day.
The group, Northwest 746, plans to meet near Basin Park and walk around the city, but they will not enter any building or place that prohibits carrying firearms, such as government buildings or private businesses with warning signs, Suchsland said.It appears that Arkansascarry also intends to be in Eureka Springs on the 29th of March. It is likely that a significant number will show up to celebrate their second amendment rights.
Regular Council meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month in the City Council Chambers at 44 S. Main and are broadcasted live on Cable Channel 21. Check below for the next meeting.
Okay, now who should we blame for this? The VOTERS, that’s who. They are the ones that elected these IDIOTS to run their town. It never seems to amaze me. Voters in a town, city, county, state or even federal VOTERS are complaining what their politicians are doing or have done. Now, do you believe me when I say “ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES”? Maybe, next time you’ll vote with your eyes wide open and choose someone that thinks the same way you do.
Eureka Springs is where the fruits and nuts live. However, the people who flock there and spend millions on B&B’s, restaurants, gift shops, etc. It is a mecca for bikers and classic car groups who like to ride the mountain roads. They could easily decide to go somewhere else for just one weekend and you’d hear more squealing of pigs than you get at a Razorback football game.
Eureka Springs, from what it sounds like, from people who have been there.. is basically a mini San Francisco.
There are Mrs. Grundys everywhere.
Eureka Springs is Berkley of the Ozarks. At least, they wish they were.
The voters in Eureka Springs are an assortment of ex-hippies, Sodomites, and an Ozark breed of liberal. They got exactly what they want.
They have, Eureka is a dying town.
But the council member on the near left, in the baseball cap, has some of the last words: "We don't want this particular group of gun owners who are trying to rub our noses in it."Y'know, 'rub his nose' (not 'our') in the Constitution and the state law. Unfit for office.
Eureka Springs is an artsy-fartsy tourist town that is not a typical rural Ozarks town. They’re big draw used to be the “Christ of the Ozarks” statue and “Passion Play” but they have pretty well destroyed that by catering to the motorcycle crowd, they welcome with open arms (no pun intended ;-) ;-)) the Hell’s Angels and Banditos to the point of having several unsolved murders from the bad blood between the two.
It sounds like a couple on their city council are fruit loops but calmer heads prevail.
It is a rather odd small town, somewhat eccentric.

(N.B. Eureka Springs is northeast of Fort Smith, where judge Issac Parker issued justice.)
I did notice this little item:
“The only bank robbery to occur in Eureka Springs was on September 27, 1922, when five outlaws from Oklahoma tried to rob the First National Bank. Three of the men were killed and two others wounded.”
“While largely forgotten, The Great Eureka Springs Bank Robbery is one of the most sensationalized, highly publicized robberies in the annals of American journalism. The story was covered in nearly every major newspaper - from the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Herald to the Wichita Eagle, from the Salt Lake City Tribune to the Tulsa World; from the Joplin Globe to the Kansas City Star. It was even featured in an article entitled “Death Trap” which was published in the Startling Detective Magazine.”
Heck of a good story, found here.

Back in the day, Eureka Springs was a nice town to visit, but has been mentioned here, it is now full of leftist nonsense. Thankfully, most Arkansas towns and places in-between are OVERWHELMINGLY pro-gun. Even the Democrats here are very quick to point out their pro-2nd Amendment bonafides.
