With Obama sparring with Vladimir Putin over the recent annexation of Crimea, his administration is playing big footsie with Russia now that NASA is paying a whopping $424 million to get Obama-grounded astronauts back into space.

Actually, if I remember correctly(suspicious of that) it was GW's decision to end the shuttle program. The lyin king just further cemented the process and cancelled the follow on. I know where there's some left over shuttles. Sadly, the infrastructure to ever fly one again has been dismantled and could never be rebuilt at today's prices. So..........here ya go Vlad. Some more bucks for ya. Besides, nasa's been reduced to a i-slam-ish outreach program for the most part. And wealth re-distribution advocate and a glo-bull warming proponent and...............

That’s really not ‘space travel’ per se. It’s overpriced bus service. NASA is a collection of abject fools with PhDs.

As long as muslims feel good about all their contributions to math and science, all is good

” - - - Obama will make a statement on Ukraine before he departs Thursday for a day of events in Florida. - - - “

Predicted Obama statement summary: “There is no need for MY War with Russia to interfere with MY political fund-raising in Florida. Money trumps War, every time. FORWARD!”

Observation: The Democrat’s Empty Chair Party Animal sets out for another carefree day of skimming dollars from Obamanation Loyalists. Their loss is his gain.

Would be funny if Russia stops the bus service to the space station. Then what do we do to get them out of there?

LOL! The comment about gw cancelling the program was semi-satirical since I DID know he shut it down. In the early years we were gearing up to build External Tanks at a pretty rapid pace. Challenger put a stop to that. One of the problems with the insulation (the “orange” tanks) was the application method that was changed due to epa regs after quite a few years of waivers. Sadly, the orbiters were only used for about a third of their design life. As far as “man on a stick” goes, Sierra Nevada Corp at least has a flyable option instead of the old “splash down” option. Who knows if and when the US will ever field human rated space vehicles again.

You are correct, the banning of chlorofluorocarbons used in making the high quality foam insulation for the external tanks, doomed the ability to boost the Orbiter and the Orbiter itself.

However, environmentalists make good compost.

Yeah, using GN2 to apply the SOFI caused, for whatever reason, a change to it’s makeup. We fought them off for several years with waivers but the won in the end. Although we always had some foam loss on each launch but nothing like after the change.

Regardless of whose administration ended the shuttle program, the political and economic fallout from this decision should have been anticipated.

The current administration is like trying to run a business (government) on good looks alone. There is really no one of substance among Obama’s people that knows what they are doing. Just too many ex-lobbists, party bureaucrats, and red tape. Whatever this government touches, turns brown and reeks.

NASA devolved into the mess we still call a space agency. The smartest scientists, daring astronauts, and other can-do people who built a great organization are long gone. Not to mention the money. NASA is rudderless. It should be put out of its misery.

Let the next Howard Hughes and his investors in free-enterprise lead us back to the moon or wherever. NASA never will.

Although we always had some foam loss on each launch but nothing like after the change.

That's why I used the "high quality" qualifier.

NASA BC (Before Clinton), was an outstanding quality, performance and safety driven cutting edge agency, that created so many invaluable spinoffs in technology while pumping up worthy national pride.

And we gave it away to please the Socialist left.

And none of this was Putin's fault, or even his plan, he just oversees Russia's space program, and he has a lot of customers, not just the US, it is not flashy, but satisfactory. The Russians do have some sweet engines.

Obama should restart a Man in space program to replace the Russian Taxi Service—at very least. Will he? Nope—better to use it for making Muslims feel better about their “acomplishments” they stold from the Greeks, Hindus and Chinese.

Yup. Found this on spaceflightnow.com. “Hagel says crisis demands review of Russian engine.” With this link. Who we gonna call? LOL! And we’ll still pay them to put our folks on the ISS.
