Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed any tea party candidates challenging establishment Republicans in the 2014 midterm elections would not just fail but fail miserably.
"I think we are going to crush them everywhere," he said, The New York Times reported, "I don't think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.
The surprise is that people are shocked over this fraud. He showed he true colors during his Presidential run, but the Perry fans who slobber over themselves will never recognize the sleaze that is Perry. We will continue to hear how “groovy” Rick Perry is probably until the day he dies.
“weaponized stupid” I like it. I’m gonna steal that! :o)
I cant take credit for it. But I wish I could ;)
But I'm not going to play the game some Freepers love to play:
"McConnell is a RINO"
"Therefore, anyone who endorses McConnell is a RINO"
"Therefore, anyone who supports anyone who endorses McConnell is a RINO"
"Therefore, anyone who says anything favorable about anyone who supports anyone who endorses McConnell is a RINO!"
That way lies madness.
Because buying a product you don’t want has always been the path to getting a manufacturer to develop the product you do....
Did someone mention “mental masturbation?”
(Seriously Norm, no inference to our previous discussions is intended here. The analogy just fits)
> “...(when there was no reason for him to weigh-in in the first place)...”
This would be true if principles were involved. But this is about McConnell who controls the purse strings of vast amounts of funds for campaigns and Perry needs the funds for his presidential campaign. And he needed to come out now in support to show McConnell he is not just a fair weather political ally.
Ted Cruz on the other hand appears well-funded and can therefore afford to be independent.
What it shows is that Perry has his hand out asking. He is not independent, he will be bought off and promoted by establishment interests.
If this November the Tea Party prevails or even fights to a tie, Perry will have his hand out to Tea Party supporters and will sound very conservative.
Perry can’t be trusted.
Yea, as much as somebody with an IQ of 99 can surprise somebody. He maybe a smart man, but he comes across as kinda dumb.
The capacity for ‘conservatives’ to justify voting for a RINO is utterly boundless.
I gotta say. I’m impressed. Truly impressed.
Basic econ 101. Subsidize something and you get more of it ;)
McConnell wants to crush the Tea Party, not Democrats. He is not only a RINO, but stupid. Why should anyone that is a Tea Party Conservative vote for this Obama “YES Man”. And Rick is stupid too. If he had a chance, it was with Tea Party conservatives taking a second look. The establishment Republicans wont give him the time of day. Rick destroyed any good will of Tea Party Conservatives with the McConnell endorsement.
They always do a tightrope dance between RINO and conservative.
And he has said just that.
So to RINO Rick's die-hard supporters who have argued so many times that he is a TEA Party conservative I ask, do you still believe so now?
Perry is a politician - he figures Mitch is going to win re-election and he knows he will need Mitch’s support if he is going to make a run in 2016. Like it or not, that’s how the game is played.
Polling in Kentucky indicates that, even if Mitch beats backs his primary challenge, he’s still likely to lose to the Democrat candidate in the general election.
This was a stupid move, politically, on Perry’s part; but at least he exposed himself for what he is.
I wouldn't go that far. I think that Rick Perry is conservative on some things very important to conservatives, and his track record in Texas is proof of it. He would be an imperfect conservative candidate, but he's right on Life, God, Guns, Spending, Defense, Natural Family, and American exceptionalism. He's squishy on amnesty, iirc, and he's infected by association with the republican party. That's part of the reason he supported McConnell. The other part is that McConnell is the sitting senator so the odds on favorite to win if basing it on past statistics about sitting senators. So, Perry is simply keeping his options open in his run for the presidency. If Bevins were to win over McConnell, then I'm sure he'd support Bevins.
However, I would GLADLY have had him as the candidate instead of Romney the last time around.
I'm concerned with killing off viable conservatives. My favorites are, in order: Cruz, Sessions, Palin. Those I could possibly support are: Perry, Lee, Martinez, Paul, Bush, and Scott. Based on what I know now, all of the above are better than Romney, although that's not the highest praise. If I find any of them are suspect on Life, God, Guns, Spending, Marriage, or America, then I'll remove them from the list.
There is no way to get you wrong.
You are a quizling who not only has no immutable standards on anything, not one moral line you refuse to cross on any issue anywhere...in addition to that lack of character you attack anyone who exhibits that sort of character. Hence your meaningless “childish” and “timing” quips.
That pretty much covers you.
Texas Tea Party members told everyone that long ago.
He gains the trust of the GOPe.
Politicians are politicians. None are to be trusted. Power does most definitely corrupt. Term limits are thus essential, and we will never truly have responsive political representation until we do away with career politicians.
That said, I am curious as to what criteria each of us would use in determining who is an acceptable candidate for support. I’m not sure that even on this board there will be agreement on a lot of issues.
This was back in the 2012 primary season.
