My nine month sojourn in Georgia is coming to an end next week. I came here in July in order to endeavor, with the help of the Aleph Institute, to rescue my two granddaughters from the foster care system of a rural Georgia county. They were placed in foster care after my daughter's worthless boyfriend assaulted one of them and broke her leg. She was four at the time. He got 30 years. My daughter got ten for not calling 911 immediately, but instead escaping with the hurt child and hiding out in a fleabag hotel. As may be inferred, she was badly abused herself, and suffering from battered woman syndrome, which completely warped her judgement. My hopes of saving any of them were forlorn, until Aleph Institute stepped into the picture. They sponsored my stay here, hired a top law firm to represent me, and as the case required it, also hired two law firms to defend my daughter. I spent months going back and forth from Atlanta to visit my grandchildren in the rural county, and reestablish a relationship with them. When at last the case came to trial, WE WON! My wife came over from Israel to help me care for the two little ones in Savannah as I arranged for passports and other important papers, and next week we are heading back to Israel with them.
I loved Atlanta and Savannah, and their warm, welcoming Jewish communities, and cannot thank the Aleph Institute and the three law firms enough (Kessler & Solomiany of Atlanta and the Clarence Taylor Law Firm of Savannah). One of them (Keith Barber, Esq., of Statesboro) continues to diligently work to get my daughter out of jail.
But despite it all, I yearn for my home in Israel. I must also thank my family, especially my son for managing the care of my wife's aged mother in our absence and other important concerns, my niece and her family for looking after our 11-year-old boy, who will now have two new playmates (now ages 3 and 6), and of course my wife for keeping everything and everyone going both here and there during this whole ordeal. Victory has never been this sweet before.
From top to bottom, this government is broken and twisted and messed up. It is Barackwards!
Congrats on winning the case, and good job rescuing the grandkids!
Congratulations!!! It seems the news is always on how it is impossible to fight child protective services. So it is great to see someone persevere and work hard to bring your grandchildren back home.
Best Hopes/Prayers for You and Yours..
be sure to stay-in-touch w/ us @ FR. ;-)
Congratulations.
My daughter has seen the light and found her way back to G-d. Hope she keeps up the good resolutions when she gets out. Has she in the past been troublesome, appalling, aggravating? You bet. But worthless? No.
That was really out of line. Totally uncalled for.
what a testament to your persistance. thank God for it and all the help you had. i can sense how precious your grand babies and your daughter are to you. may God continue to bless, strengthen and help you and especially them through this terrible ordeal.
Congratulations and a safe trip home. Shalom!
WTF?
Does your daughter have a prior felony conviction?
Ten years is a huge sentence for being a negligent mother with battered spouse syndrome.
Congrats, Eleutheria. Persistence usually does pay off. I’m glad it worked out and you are now able to return home.
Sounds like “Dr. Pritchett” is seriously off his meds.
Well, step right up folks its time to play the commie game, the Blame the Victim Game. You don’t have to be a commie to play, just someone with a room temperature I.Q..
As a well known Jewish fellow once said, ‘He who is without sin, cast the first stone.’
I have seen this sort of thing in my own family and watched an otherwise sensible woman go back for more. The last time my grandfather and I moved my aunt out, grandfather explained to the husband, You ever lay another hand on my daughter and I will put you in the ground. Husband never laid another hand on her, became a Christian, and remained married to and cared for my aunt till her death 15 years later of cancer. By the way grandpa’s words also cured his craving for strong drink.
Course this was before the government became our keeper and felt compelled to sort out all our problems.
I like my grandfather’s way better. Till you have walked in those shoes, save the criticism Dr. Pritchett.
Doctor, heal thyself. Your seething anger at the world is shortening your miserable life.
So sorry for all you and your family has endured.
Glad you were able to save your grandchildren from the ravages of the foster system and I’m sure they will grow up well rounded, independent, self determined and imbued with all that hallmark Jewish culture.
I don’t know the particulars of your daughters situation but, on the surface, it doesn’t seem she deserves 10 years, if any at all.
She might have benefited from counseling, as would her children. She found herself in an abusive relationship and upon this unfortunate event, did what she could by leaving.
I hope she will be released soon and be reunited with her children, lesson learned, whatever that may be.
Abusive relationships are not cut and dry nor is the response.
Many times the abused woman reacts, which is not always the best choice but, is at least a choice and can give time and space to make choice that is informed, however difficult.
My prayers to you, your daughter, her children and your family.
I shall pray for all of you at Passover and take extra portions at Seder of the Maror, Chazeret and Salt water.
Of course, I will wash it all down with copious amounts of Karpas and cleans my palate with my favorite; “Charoset” to wash the taste of my maw.
Mogen David will finish the request.
Most of all we will ensure the candles lit beautifully so Elizah will pass through and hear our plea, taking it back to our Divine Creator for consideration, with fervent hope our prayers will be answerd.
I will leave bountiful amounts of Latkes, Kugel, Chalah and a Liter or two of Mogden David.
This night will be different from all others, with a meaning and asked blessing that your delivered to a Promise Land, of sorts.
Hope you enjoy my humor ....
Worthless Daughter?
Whoever told you to be your self couldn’t have given worse advice.
