When I was a kid, during late Spring/early Summer swimming in the ponds, we would find the top 6" of water nice and warm, then next two feet down OK and below that... "Brrrrrrrr'!

Later, as an adult I visited Southern California and learned that the Pacific was COLD!

Then I went to Chicago and decided to take a swim in Lake Michigan in early June. I started to wade into the lake, but quit before I got to knee deep. I decided that the War of Northern Aggression was not at all about "Freeing the Slaves".

Them D&^% Yankees were just looking for a warm swimming hole!
