Basic premise of this paper: 1. lets take fish out of their natural ocean environment, 2. put em in a tank where they are stressed, 3. crank up the temperature, 4. see if any fish die, 5. count dead fish, 6. assume natural adaptation is impossible 7. report news of future doom to the world via press release.
Via Eurekalert: According to an international team of researchers, the rapid pace of climate change is threatening the future presence of fish near the equator. Our studies found that one species of fish could not even survive in water just three degrees Celsius warmer than what it lives in now, says the lead author of the study, Dr Jodie Rummer from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University.
Dr Rummer and her colleagues studied six common species of fish living on coral reefs near the equator. She says many species in this region only experience a very narrow range of temperatures over their entire lives, and so are likely adapted to perform best at those temperatures.
This means climate change places equatorial marine species most at risk, as oceans are projected to warm by two to three degrees Celsius by the end of this century.

When I was a kid, during late Spring/early Summer swimming in the ponds, we would find the top 6" of water nice and warm, then next two feet down OK and below that... "Brrrrrrrr'!
Later, as an adult I visited Southern California and learned that the Pacific was COLD!
Then I went to Chicago and decided to take a swim in Lake Michigan in early June. I started to wade into the lake, but quit before I got to knee deep. I decided that the War of Northern Aggression was not at all about "Freeing the Slaves".
Them D&^% Yankees were just looking for a warm swimming hole!
News flash for the Global Warmers....
It hasn’t been warmer for almost 15 years.
SHHHHHH!!! Don’t wake up the adults, the Capitalists, Freedom lovers or people who use REAL Science.
SHHHHHH!!!
I am 100% sure that the “research report” should have said, if it doesn’t, “SOME fish currently iiving near the equator......”
and I am 100% sure that the report should have said, they, the fish they are talking about.......”will not do AS WELL AS now”......
and I am 100% sure that: “will not do as well as now” should be clarified as - “not as well as now NEAR THE EQUATOR.”
the natural processes will involve SOME fish species doing less well than others, in varying degrees, AND among those who NEAR THE EQUATOR begin to do LESS WELL THAN BEFORE they will, by some percentage, seek habitats more conducive to doing O.K.
and, to the extent that SOME species leave and/or dwindle in population NEAR THE EQUATOR, those most able to remain near the equator will likely, having less competition from the species who leave and/or dwindle, wind up doing better
LIFE writ large, including animal and plant life, will not “perish from the earth”, it will adapt as much as it can whenever, whereever and however it can, and in whatever manner it can it will survive - it has for millions of years
It's instinctive for them to do so. The east coast population of Bluefish is a good example. In the spring when coastal water temperatures reach the low fifties, they start appearing in our waters. In late fall when the water temperature drops, they migrate south. I caught an eight pound Blue in the surf, in 48 degree water, on December 8th of a number of years back. That's the latest I've got one here, but a few were taken on offshore wrecks until a week or two into January that year. The water's cooled a bit the last few years; my first Blue in 2013 was a few days into May. Some years it used to be the second week in April.
A cold water fish, the Whiting, when they were abundant, used to thrive in 38-45 degree water and move into the shallows during winter. They called them "Frostfish" because on particularly cold nights, while chasing bait in the surf zone, they'd sometimes be temporarily stunned by super cold wash coming off the beach. They could be scooped up by hand or with a basket or net.
WHEW!
So glad to know that fish have better sense than to become “victims” by decree of the Liberal Greenies!
Now if we could just get humans to be as smart as fish - - - - the stronger mind over the weaker mind———.
It’s working! I feel like a fish already!
