The destructive consequences of Obamas proposed Minimum Wage
See: Obama to sign executive order raising minimum wage for federal contractors
President Obama, in the first of potentially many executive actions tied to his State of the Union address, will unilaterally increase the minimum wage for workers under new federal contracts to $10.10 an hour, from $7.25, in an effort to build momentum for a minimum wage hike for all Americans.
And tell us Mr. President, how does the federal minimum wage affect our free market system, and in particularly, inner city youth who have dropped out of High School who are not prepared to earn a living wage? Well, the most glaring example is to look at a newspaper from the 1960s and turn to its help wanted section. To our surprise we will find countless jobs, especially in the trades [plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.] available as will train positions. At the time, these jobs provided a second opportunity to many high school drop-outs to not only find employment, but learn a well-paying trade in the process if they were willing to buckle down and take the opportunity. Countless part time positions were available starting at about $ 1 - $1.50 an hour, but the pay was rapidly increased as the employees productivity increased which allowed an increase in their pay.
Unfortunately, because of todays countless government financial requirements added to the cost of hiring a new employee in the trades, and would include Obamas outrageous $10.10 minimum wage in addition to unemployment compensation, Social Security Payments, Medicare, etc., a business owner today who may like to hire a high school drop-out as a trainee finds the government added costs prohibitive and thus, the bottom rungs on the employment ladder have been cut off by government for many of our nations high school drop outs.
But there is a motive behind Obamas proposal, and it has nothing to do with helping the unemployed or employed who have very little to offer an employer. It is obvious that Obama is once again attempting to flimflam these poor souls into believing there is free cheese, rather than providing them with a way to learn how to make cheese and become independent in the process. Were we not warned against dependency by our Founding Fathers?

If we can make 51 percent of Americas population dependent upon an Obama, welfare, food stamp, section 8 housing, college loan check, and now free Obamacare along with FREE BACON, we can blackmail them for their vote, keep ourselves in power and keep the remaining portion of Americas productive population enslaved to pay the bills ____ Obamas Marxist Free Stuff Party, which is designed to establish a federal plantation and redistribute the wealth which wage earners, business and investors have worked to create.
You are 16, want an entry level job. Good Luck!
you’ve been here long enough to know blog-pimping is frowned upon
How is he “blog pimping”?
And since the young blacks are disproportionately affected by elimination of jobs at the low skilled entry level, Sheik Obama’s proposal can be translated as something like:
“Get the blacks out of the labor force!”
Sounds racist to me. Is that his white half showing his hatred towards his black one-eighth?
Only in a fading nation would it become WHERE to store gov't spying on its citizens. Any free people would demand it STOPPED and DESTROYED!...Obama is using MW as a smoke screen for his scandal of....spying writ large......
Congress AND Senators....do your job of protecting your nation and stop this insanity by Obama now!
just remember, any increase in the minimum wage is a direct increase to union wages... as union contracts are a negotiated percent above minimum
Do I get a 40% raise too ?
I agree that increasing the minimum wage cause employers to cut back on hiring and/or hours per week.
However, explaining that to low info Americans is an economics discussion, and they blank out after about 30 seconds. Self-interest, too, affects those who do have the beginnings of understanding: do I want a $3 an hour raise or do I want to worry about some nameless employer someplace in the country not hiring as many people as he would have. Self-interest is what we capitalists preach. We say that self-interest drives a free market.
What is a better argument against the minimum wage that gets to the self-interest of a slew of Americans?
Prices. Prices will rise. If you jack his costs, then he’ll jack his prices. And you’ll pay. Someone someplace will be making one third more, but it will cost you in just about every store or restaurant where you do most of your shopping. A dollar here, and a dollar there, and the next thing you know, you’re paying a couple hundreds buck extra a month.
And you know what?
They won’t be raising your pay to cover it unless you’re already below minimum wage.
That is an argument based on self-interest.
Hit all the links and couldn't find a blog.
Once the competition from invaders and other unnecessary foreign workers is removed, the next step is tariffs to protect US manufacturing from unfair competition from third world cesspools. After that, let the market place sort out matching US workers with job opportunities.
I can no longer support the initiatives of the cheap labor contingent that refuses to cede control of the Republican Party.
All price increases get passed on to the consumer yeah that’s real helpful.
/s
BUT...it’s the MEAN company that is jacking up the prices...and the LIV just does NOT comprehend why....they consider all business owners RICH.
That’s when you tell them ALL politicians are sold out to the man. They all feed at the big dollar trough. Obama with the financial companies. Show them how even little barry turned overnight into a multi-millionaire when just 6 short years ago he was worth only a hundred thousand.
So, do you want to stop money coming out of your pocket to pay for higher prices or do you want to at least keep them where they’re at?
This isn’t blog-pimping
